Secunia says my Cyberlink Power DVD 4.0 (patched) is end of life and may be a opening for a hacker since vulnerabilities are no longer being patched. Is there really much danger of this? It is a nice program for watching dvd's and I hate to get rid of it. I don't want to have to pay for Power DVD 10.0 and media player isn't as nice. What do you think? Except for the ever present threat of IE8 it is my only listed vulnerability.

Hi sbarthmd;

Welcome to the Secunia forum.

If you want to use the player only to watch DVD's and you are disconnected from the internet and you only use DVD's that are commercially made or are from a known safe source, OK.

The amount of risk is for you to decide. My personal opinion (if that's what you're after) is that the risk is small.

If you decide to continue it's use, remember to set an ignore rule, so as not to be reminded every time you run PSI.

Regards;

Fred

Thanks, I already set the ignore rule hoping that the reply would be similar to what you posted.
