Recently I wondered why my Firefox suddenly was missing some plugins and was running in English.

Today I've learnt why.

When Secunia suggest a solution due to obsoleted software, such as hinting to download the latest Firefox and you follow this advice, it downloads the English version thus overwriting the German version.

Nasty!

I'm guessing that you're using PSI 2.0 beta (1.9.0.4 to be precise).

If this is the case, then this is a known issue while it is in the beta stage.

I do not use the 2.0 beta version, but have copied the following from a reply posted by Anthony Wells, on a similar thread, which may help a little:

Quote : "For the Firefox programme in the Beta (1.9.0.4) results page , click the [+] and then double click the the programme details ; in the new window you will see that you are offered a language selection for Firefox : unfortunately for you , the preset default language is English , so you need to set your own language from the dropdown menu for future updates .

This is the same for other programmes where there is a language option , otherwise all update solutions offered by the PSI Beta are English/International versions ." Unquote.

I hope the above is of help, but as a safeguard to your settings, when PSI alerts to an update, you could update from Help>Check for Updates from within Ff. If you are using 2.0 beta, then you should uncheck auto update (and Thunderbird, if you use that). When this beta version becomes full release, I believe this language problem should be sorted out (?).

Hi

We are aware that some programs will be installed in English by default by the PSI.

With the PSI 2 we plan to be able to offer every language specific download for those programs that needs it. This way our users will keep the language they prefer.

I haven't heard of that happening before with 1.5.0.2 - only 2.0 whilst in beta stage. Apologies for wrong info.

I think your best course of action (once you've re-set Ff. to your requirements), is to always update from within Ff. (Check for Updates) - this way it shouldn't mess with your settings
