I just received a notice from Secunia that (AIM) 6.x is end-of-life, but no solution is available. Can I go to the folder and delete that file without affecting anything else? I do not instant message through AOL or any other source.
The path is C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\1214518482\ee\aim6.exe

It would be better to uninstall it using Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features, depending on your system.

I went to add and remove and there is an AOL installer which asks you to select which program you wish to uninstall and nothing comes up. If I click on the folder which is displayed in the Secunia report from the scan, 'ee' comes up and AIM6.x is there. Can I just delete it from there? Add and Remove shows nothing of use for this.
The URL you provided leads me to the same problem. AIM is not listed in any of the programs.

Try uninstalling everything related to AOL in Add/Remove programs. It may have been installed alongside another product.

If nothing works, before you delete it, rename it and check that everything still works.

I have four AOL listings in my add/remove:
AOL registration-AOL toolbar for FoxFire-AOL toolbar for Internet Explorer and AOL uninstaller
My computer knowledge is limited and I am not sure of what and how to use your instructions, except to select each of these programs in add/remove and uninstall.
I think since I never use AIM my best bet is to ignore it for now.
