I've updated MS-Access 2003 to v 11.0.8660.0 and Frontpage to 11.0.8164 using regular MS update. PSI continues to detect version 11.0.5606.0 in both programs. Using PSI's Download solution link offers me KB953404, which refuses to install, insisting I've already updated to a later version.

Anyone else had the same problem (and is there a workaround)?

Same here. Doesn't seem to be one yet. I've added it to the ignore list.

Well- due to weird problems with PSI- that tridom01 guy and I are the same person.

Anyhow- I discovered that my problem is due to the fact that I have a slave drive that used to be a system drive, and it also has these programs on it. What PSI is picking up is the versions on my slave drive as being insecure (although they are inactive). The versions on my OS drive are shown under "patched".

When I try to do an update, it tries to update my current versions, which are already updated.

Check the paths to the programs you can't update and see if there are duplicate copies.

Nope. I only have one disk and one copy installed. I don't understand why it affects only Access if the same update applies to other MS programs, and it recognize the update for these others.

HHMMMmmm....strange.

Do you have any backups? Or maybe a restore point that its picking up on? (grasping straws now)

No. I recently re-installed my PC and deleted any unnecessary software including the trial MS programs. I ensured that the directories were also deleted. I did a cleanup of all temporary files as well. Also, Secunia points to the correct folder where Access is installed. That's why it makes no sense, unless the update didn't include Access.

For now I created an exclude filter for it.

Thanks.........Alex

I have the same problem with my Access 2003 and Infopath 2003 on my Vista Ultimate PC.

PSI v1.0.0.1 8and older) keeps telling me that these programs are Insecure:
Microsoft Access 2003 11.0.8166.0
Microsoft InfoPath 2003 11.0.8165.0

The Patch PSI proposes me cannot be installed, because it tells me it is already installed. All Microsoft updates are installed.
I physically removed all occurence of MSACCESS.EXE on my local drives.

And yes I did press the PSI Re-scan button many times.
I think PSI is scanning much more than the MSACCESS.EXE on my drives.

I dream since long that PSI would give us a little log file of what was scanned, or at least of what files/reg entries where not OK.

If this is too much, I would like to have a button "I think it is false positive" which sends Secunia debug infos!

I have the same problem. Access and Frontpage (both active on c:) have been updated and give a later version number than the one PSI reports. I've also now excluded both files in settings.

Let's hope someone from Secunia is monitoring this forum......

I started a PSI full scan some minutes ago, and guess what?
Access 2003 and Infopath 2003 disappeared from the Insecure App List.
30 minutes before they were listed as insecure...

The only explanation I see is that I stopped and restarted PSI.
(because of the profile registration)

Could it be that PSI only grabs the list of insecure apps at start ?
(I never stop my PC, so PSI could stay long with an obsolete list...)

I have the same problem with Access 2002. Version 10.6771.6845-SP3 is installed, but Secunia PSI reports version 10.0.6735.0 and suggests KB953405 is needed. Attempting to install that update from Microsoft results in a message that the update has already been included in another update and cannot be reinstalled. I agree with the previous posters that Secunia needs to figure out why they are not detecting the correct version of the installed software here.

Good idea Steve. But I'd rather ignore each individual program so it still deteacts whatever else is installed there.

Hi Mapych, good idea. I just stopped and restarted PSI. Access problem resolved. I still have a problem with Visual Studio, but I think I may have a corrupt installation. I'm going to uninstall and reinstall.

Hi tridom,
try to start a new full scan (in the Scan tab).

and as Steve_BZ said
on 3rd Dec, 2008 11:31, Steve_BZ wrote:

Go on the "Settings" tab, scroll down and click on "Create Ignore Rule"
Tell PSI the location of your slave drive (E:, or E:\Program Files, etc.)

I dont think it is useful to let PSI scan drives with old obsolete windows installations. If you don't use it anymore, move your slave drive WINDOWS and PROGRAM FILES directory in a zip file or on an DVD/external drive/memory stick.

Thanks Map. Appreciate the attempt, but that won't fix it (:-<). It was a new full scan that made them start to show up- and what is showing up as insecure is my "current" version of MS Office on my OS drive. Yet MS Update says it is up to date. Basically, the same problem mentioned earlier in this thread.

Not to my knowledge. It looks like its in English to me LOL.

Are you referring to the Language Packs by any chance? Think they could cause it? I don't know if they are are installed or not.

Hey map,

I forgot to address this one. I agree with you on this. For me, I just have too much there right now and need to do some clean up, recovery, and preservation when I have time (never mind why- suffice it to say that drive was a mess and I installed/rebuilt a new one as the master). I've put those particular installations on ignore in PSI for now. My problem now is with my "current" instance of the programs.

Since I posted on the 28th of Nov, no strange detection behavior happened again with my PSI (I didn't told PSI to scan anything since)

Because You experienced the same problem I had in the past, I decided to see if the problem could reappear today.
So I stopped/started PSI again, did a full rescan in the hope some part of office would appear as insecure again.

I'm sorry to tell you that no office part appeared on my insecure list.

The version of office product which appears on my "Patched" list are:
Microsoft Access 2003 11.0.8221.0
Microsoft Excel 2003 11.0.8231.0
Microsoft InfoPath 2003 11.0.8221.0
Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2003 11.0.8164.0
Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 11.0.8212.0
Microsoft Outlook 2003 11.0.8217.0
Microsoft Powerpoint 2003 11.0.8227.0

Restarting PSI and re-scanning has not fixed the issue. PSI continues to report incorrect version numbers for MSACCESS.EXE and FRONTPG.EXE.

I'm having the same problem on one of my PC's. PSI says that all the Office 2003 programs are insecure. I've downloaded and installed the patch on both machines. One is now fine. The other still shows all the apps as insecure. Both machines have Office 2003 installed on the main drive in the default folder. I didn't have any problems until I installed the newest PSI. With the RC3, everything showed fine.

Same problem here as well. Thanks to the one who listed the latest application versions. After that I found out that I really need the updates and Secunia doesn't made any error by reporting them. Maybe I can give some more ideas to investigate the root cause.

The other day I tried to update my MS Office installation - mixed 2000 and 2003 versions - by using officeupdate.microsoft.com (please note, i was using the MS Office related update software not microsoft update). Resulting in an error message due to either

* missing installer patch files (.msp) in %windir%\installer directory or
* updating the Microsoft installer after updating MS Office components

I assume it's caused by the latter as I didn't delete any .msp files.

Thus my assumption is the regular Microsoft update is not able to detect these necessary updates and doesn't show an error message (at least not on the web, maybe in log files) whereas office update shows the error. Secondly maybe Secunia is using a different checking algorithm and thus is able to dected the missing update.

If anyone was able to follow my rather complicated and twisted train of thoughts up to this point... Can you investigate as I don't have enough time and knowledge to go all the way down to naked bits and bytes.

Regards
Lars

Microsoft products tend to give very interesting error messages (or error numbers), but then you don't get a explanation how to solve the problem.

Most of the time I go then to http://support.microsoft.com/
and copy/paste the error message or error number in the search box.

Microsoft has a very big (multilingual) Knowledge Base with good instruction how to fix the problems. If the problem cannot be fixed, the MS article gave you have enough infos to use Google&Co to look further...

I have had these problems with RC4 and the latest version, I gave up last time and just ignored the message as I did not want to actually ignore access and it just disappeared one day ?

I tried to download the patch from secunia link a few times but could not install it as above it just advised that it was already installed.

I am seeing the same problem, which affects both MS Access and Infopath in Offiice 2003. In both cases, Secunia PSI 1.0 detects version 11.0.8028.0. In both caes it shows the expected path to the primary instance of the executable, in program files\microsoft office\office 11, etc. If I go to those locations and select properties and then version for these two files, I am shown a different version number, 11.0.8165.0. There are other instances of each executable on my system, but they are all of the same version. Following your guidance, I'll flush my cache and try again.

There is a series of these errors covering Word, Excel, Access, Office 07 Compatibility Pack, and Snapshot Viewer. Always the same issue across all the threads. I did a manual scan and that cleared all except Access. The database application has been persistent for a few weeks now and nothing seems to make it go away.

I am having the same type of problem on "dutch" language installed system. The only ones I get reported are MSACCESS 11.0.8166.0 and INFOPATH 11.0.8165.0. Rescanning (over and over) does not help either.

I'd like to get rid of these UNNECCESARY messages.

The advice is given to install, on top of SP3, to install KB953404. After downloading and installing it gets reported as already installed on this system.

I scanned my Windows XP with Secunia and it showed up two threats. Both Active X controls. I clicked on the Blue arrow and downloaded the patches. So far , so good, but the on the next scan secunia showed the same threats. I tried again and the next day secunia scan showed the same threats, ignoring the fact that I had downloaded the recommended patches. What is going on? Or what am I doing wrong?

Same problem, Access2003 and Infopath 2003, on XP Pro SP3. I have already installed 953404 and it tells me that when I try to reinstall. Either MS has a problem with their patch, or Secunia has a problem with their detection.

This seems to be a problem for me as well for Access, InfoPath and Powerpoint Viewer 2003.

the path it detects is
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11

MSACCESS.exe detects version 11.0.6360.0 (actual 11.0.8166.0)
Infopath.exe detects version 11.0.6360.0 (actual 11.0.8165.0)
PptVIEW.exe detects version 11.0.6360.0 (actual 11.0.8164.0)

The Microsoft updates related to the reported issues will not install again due to being already installed. I have closed and reopened PSI without any change to the status. I have also rescanned my system numerous times without luck.

Any other suggestions on how to clear these false reports?

I just had a similar until I removed a thumb drive and then after scan problem went away.
