What is the best anti virus software to get?
I am getting a new Dell laptop. I am spending about $1,400 on it and want to make sure it last and remains fast. I want to get a good anti virus software for it but don't want it to slow my computer down, but I do want it to fully protect my laptop from viruses and hackers. I am willing to pay money for it so whatever the best anti virus there is is what I want. I will have windows 7 professional on it as well.

This is a difficult question to ask. It is a personal choice. There are many to choose
from. I prefer the one supplied by my ISP. I also supplement this with Secunia PSI.

Avira AntiVir is very good. I already use Security Premium Suite for a year now and I'm satisfied. There is a Free version but it's limited. The Pro versions have a standard evaluation period of 30 days. See www.avira.com.

Hi ,

The "best" one is the one that works best for you ; you need to understand what it does and how to configure it so that it does it's job without upsetting your system and how you go about your business .

Read the reviews which are everywhere and test run those paid or free products that appeal to you . You need to have confidence in what it does for you ; but you hold the key .

A hardware firewall in your router/modem is the best base plus one software firewall and one Anti-virus only at any one time . A signature and behavior based on guard Ant-spyware programme can fill in the rest . Keep securely patched with the PSi and use "safe/secure" browsing rules ; the software is only as good as you make it .

Take care

Anthony
