Hi everybody.

Google has released a new stable version of Chrome (v8)

Moreover, since the last security advisory about Chrome 7.x (http://secunia.com/advisories/42472/), Secunia advises to update chrome in order to fix the vulnerabities.

But now, PSI (under Vista SP2) seems to be unable to detect Chrome v.8 even if i run a full scan.

And it wouldn't be the first time, regarding this topic about Chrome V.6 : http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/540...

Btw, i noticed Chrome V.8 as an unknown software with PSI even if i'm not sure that it will be helpful.

Thanks for your help :)

Hello.
You are right....it has happened before. Again, it may be relative to the fact that Chrome has released the same version to the Beta channel at the same time. See :-
http://googlechromereleases.blogspot.com/ Secunia doesn't monitor Beta nor Dev versions of programs.
It also is the weekend....so possibly the situation will be rectified tomorrow.

Hello again.
Just to clarify a couple of things....it's not the case that psi is detecting version 7 Chrome....the old version/file has been removed ? So you are looking in the Patched tab/Secure Browsing tab of psi for the new version ? You are probably quite familiar with the update process/file removal of Chrome....but just wanted to be sure.

I didn't understand your statement :-

Btw, i noticed Chrome V.8 as an unknown software with PSI even if i'm not sure that it will be helpful.
Could you possibly enlarge on it.....explain it more clearly perhaps ? Thanks.

Well, i know that each version of chrome uses a different folder.
Once google updated to v8, i deleted v7 folder.

Actually, i've just followed a piece of advice given by Emil R. Petersen in the topic about chrome v.6

(unknown source)
You can submit a software suggestion by scrolling to the bottom of the Insecure or Patched tabs, and clicking the "Program Missing?" button, and fill out the form.

I see. "Suggest a program" is for users that have a program that is unknown to Secunia and not being monitored.
In this instance, the Chrome version you've updated to; is known...it's recommended in the advisory as the Solution.
It's a matter of ensuring it's detection.
Have you rebooted since having updated ? It can sometimes cause the change to register before rescanning.

Yes, i did that and made a new scan but nothing changed.

Anyway, it's no big deal.

I can wait, i just want to make this problem known ;)

Well, unless TiMow ( a Chrome Stable user on the forum ), can confirm any different; it looks like we'll just have to see what tomorrow brings.
As you can see from my details below, I use dev and canary builds, neither of which are monitored nor affected !

Hi,

If you run a full rescan, is Google Chrome 8.x detected now?

I can confirm that latest Chrome 8.x is now present under Patched tab - following a full scan.
Unfortunately, there is still no browser box for Chrome, under Secure Browsing tab (1.5.0.2), even after full exit of PSI from tray icon, and re-launch.
