I have tried using v2.0 on my older Dell Inspiron notebook (1.73 Ghz Centrino processor with 2 GB RAM), running XP SP3. However, when v2.0 completes a scan, I get an error message about PSIA.exe and a memory error (with address of memory error). The "worse" part is that I lose my internet connection until I reboot the computer. This is a slightly different issue that I have been seeing in the Forum. Anyone else seeing this? Have returned to v1.5 for now. Noticed that "Turn off advanced text services for this program" found in the Compatibility tab in the Properties screen for the executable is already checked off for v1.5. Is this why v1.5 does not crash my computer? Thank you for any feedback.

Hi,

Where does the error message appear?
What is the exact and complete text of the error message?
Which build are you running? You can see this by right-clicking the tray icon and clicking 'About'.

Hi,

I have removed version 2.0 and replaced it with version 1.5. The error message would occur after completing a scan and would be on the screen when I would go back to log into the computer after the scan (login required after the computer sits idly for 10 minutes or more). I did not note the exact build, but it was the first version 2.0 available. I have since run at least 2 scans using version 1.5 with no ill effects.

The complete error message was simply that PSIA.exe had caused an error and the memory location where the error occurred would be on the screen. Sorry, I did not copy the entire error message and cannot duplicate it now, as version 2.0 has been removed (sorry about that).

Is there a new build of version 2.0 available? Since the option to not use "advanced text features" is checked in the current version 1.5, could this have been the problem with version 2.0?

If it would be useful, I could reinstall version 2.0 to see what happens with the option not to use "advanced texting" checked off in the Properties of PSI.exe and PSIA.exe.

Hi,

Yes, we have released several builds of the PSI 2.0 since the initial release. You can get the newest build (Currently 3001) from here:
ftp://ftp.secunia.com/PSISetup.exe

If you do decide to try 2.0 again, then the advanced text services option would definitively be worth a shot. Also, we have recently updated our FAQ, and the steps outlined here could be worth trying: http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal...

Hope this helps.

I will try the newest build of version 2.0. If it still causes a memory error, then I will try using the suggestion about turning off advanced text services.

Thank you very much for your assistance. I will let you know the result, which may take a few days to determine if either the new build and/or turning off the advanced text services corrects the memory error/crash.

I found using Windows task manager that psia.exe is consistently grabbing all available memory when running.

That means my processor is constantly running at 100%, which stops me from doing the level of work I need to.

I will switch Secunia off for the time being, as I don't know how to go back to version 1.5.

If someone can send me that backdated install, that would really help, and then I'll wait to see when version 2 becomes usable.

Also be great to know when the fix becomes available.

Warm Regards,
