This program does not appear in my add/remove list but does show under the program files directory (folder msaaccrt then Access 97 folder).
I do not know where it came from / nor did I install it. My concern is that perhaps it was installed by a 3rd party program and may impact same. As well should I delete the folder as uninstall will not / or is not available to me.
I am running Vista Ultimate.
Thanks |

It will NOT appear in Add/Remove as an individual program. The entry should be "Microsoft Office 97", of which Access 97 is a part, normally only in the "Professional" version. However you may need an original Office 97 CD to remove it?
As far as the folder location is concerned it is normally put in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office by default, unless the user specifies a different location. Do you have a later version of Microsoft Office?
I use Office 2000, but for historical reasons I still need Access 97 also, so I have put this in a separate folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office97\Office. |

I appreciate your timely response.
I am running Office 2003 student version and therefore no Access program.
I have never installed Office 97 on this machine.
I believe however that I have an old floppy version from years ago which I could go diggin for if necessary.
As I indicated in my prior post the Access 97 is a sub folder of msacrt which is a sub folder of Program Files.
I am looking for direction as to removal? |

Hi,
I made a quick search for "msaaccrt" but couldn't find any real hits on google. Do you have any idea as to where this folder originates from or what other programs are in this folder?
Is seems like a very legacy thing to me...

It sounds like an MS Access RunTime release, but the path is usually "msaccrt" (one "a" instead of two). |

Firstly I misspelled the folder name as it is msaccrt.!
The files withi the Access 97 folder are
msacc8.olb
msaccess.exe
msacnv30.dll
msacnv30.exe
msaexp30.dll
msain800.dll
soa800.dll
utility.mda
Hope this helps |

You are probably right to think it was installed along with some 3rd party program. You could test by renaming the "msaccrt" directory or moving that subtree to some other location. Any registry pointers to that copy of Access will then be disabled. Start up any applications you care about, and if none complain, delete the renamed or moved tree.

I am Looking into 2 possible patches. Waiting for Microsofts response, but again it looks like a badly installed patch, or service pack that did not fully install correctly.
At this point not sure if it is an Office XP SP2 issue or SP3. I have downloaded all packs including individual patches. I have not re-installed anything yet, waiting for MS to respond. As I have said in the MSXML 6 dilemma, never ever delete Operating files without an expert by your side or clear instructions from a Prof. I am still convinced this is an app prob when applying patch over patch.I'm gonna re-apply all the packs and then the individual KB security patches alone, and see which one does not load properly.
Once I have found it will let the community know what to do as I did for the MSXML 6. With a good Anti-Virus program this "hole" in security is a detail, and honestly, just dont see the point in fixing this, other than personal satisfaction. |
