I recently installed PSI 2.0 (free version) on Windows 7 Home Premium PC but after a few days decided I really had no need for it. I did a proper uninstall which seemed to work just fine.

Just now noticed that it left behind an entry in the "notification area icons" section in Control panel. Probably not hurting anything but it bugs me that it got left there.

How do I remove it? I'm also wondering what else was left behind??

U can soon check if Secunia has removed everything.

Right click Start>Open Windows Explorer>Navigate C:\Program Files (program Files(x86) if using 64Bit)>Secunia - if Secunia is still present right click & delete it.

Notification

Start>type in Notification> select the option U want to dabble with the PSI icon.

I know how to check in Program Files for leftover items. No Secunia folder is there nor is one in Program Data.

I think you misunderstand my original question or I didn't explain it clearly enough. The psi_tray.exe option shows up when I click on Control Panel then Notification Area Icons. When PSI 2.0 was uninstalled, something got left behind that still shows this in Notification Area Icons.

That's where I want to remove it.

Hi,

Have you tried right-clicking the tray icon and closing it?
Does the problem still occur after a reboot?

Possibly if the process was running it could be left "alive" until the next reboot or until it was killed.

Hope this helps.

I haven't got an answer to this but I think it's a Windows feature. I think there's a cache somewhere of everything that's appeared in the notification area. In Vista there's a list called past items that seems to get trimmed occasionally, so maybe it will go away eventually.
Try switching on/off, resetting defaults to see if it helps, otherwise you may have to search the Registry.

The icon is NOT showing in the system tray area. It only shows in the "notification area icons" in Control Panel.

And I have rebooted more than once.

I've also done a search thru the registry and didn't find it.

I did some further searching (must have missed it before) and found this info.

http://www.ehow.com/how_5219664_reset-notification...

Worked great to remove the entry in "notification area icons".

Last edited on 17th Jan, 2011 14:31 Hi,

Seems I missed the reference to the control panel.

Yes, this is definitively not expected behaviour - obviously the PSI should clean up after itself properly and not expect users to run ccleaner or anything similar to remove the leftovers.
I will file a ticket with our developers and add your experience too it.
Thank you for reporting this problem.
