In the UK, traffic wardens have a bad reputation. They are accused of rushing in and slapping a parking ticket (= monetary fine) on your windscreens a few seconds after your parking time expires.

I’d like to ask Morten & Emil if they have a colleague with a similar approach to his/her job who monitors the Vulnerabilities section and slaps a negative score on your PC screen if you post in that section.

Here’s the latest example
http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/394...

You’ll see that Chachita posted needing help, wr tried to help and LindaP then added her problem.

On 18th Jan, 2011 19:18 I tried to be helpful and posted my usual response. This is along the lines of “Vulnerabilities section is used mainly by Secunia staff to alert us to new vulnerabilities – members who try to help may get zapped – so to get help, re-post as a new thread”. No harm in that imho.

But Secunia’s traffic warden has zapped everyone, including me!

PSI and this forum are my favourites but may I respectfully suggest that if Secunia doesn’t want members to post in that section, they should either block “new post” access to it or/and put a clear message on that section’s home page e.g. “ This sections is for Secunia use only. Please do NOT post new threads/replies here.”

A serious suggestion – what do others think?

Hi Taffy, I agree, blocking new posts is the best measure. A warning only doesn't prevent new posts.

Hi Taffy & Leendert
Absolutely right. Beside those suggestions why not secunia warden or official remove the REPLAY & QUOTE from the right end of the announcement page.?
And that way nobody can poste there eliminating the temptation.
Good luck.

Leendert.... Thanks for the compliment

My brain isn't sharper or younger then your's but somtimes things look better if we shake our brains from time to time to feel that we are still alive.
Cheers.

thanks for your support, guys. Let's hope that there is lots more! ;0)

But I musn't shake my brain too much at my age or my head might fall off. (Mogs will probably confirm that!)

33 views - but we need more support if we are to persuade Secunia that changes are needed!

What we need is a simple floor/section plan of the forum; rather than a road map, with one or two grey areas on the left or the right ?......Entitle it HELP and hide it away in About ?!
Or
A "Please Refrain" message...similar to the success story at the start of each post in the CClips INDEX ?!
Anything; as long as it prevents helpful members becoming prematurely senile !!

PS What I should have added is that the scoring system is based on relevancy i.e. does the member think that a reply is relevant.
It shouldn't be used as a punishment!

I agree....having strayed into the war zone/minefield.....priority should be to evacuate the area without further casualties !! A newbie/sprog could lose an arm and a leg for trying to learn.....or there's not always time for !!! I've still got "ten little Indians" ! I'm alive taff !!! Who's doin' despatches ?!!!

Hi,

We are aware that the current situation is problematic. I have brought this to the attention of the relevant person again, and we will be working on a solution.

As you know, our current scoring system is based on relevancy, and the posts in question are usually, strictly speaking, irrelevant to the issue the thread is supposed to be about - the actual vulnerability from a research and analysis perspective. These threads are created when someone comments on an advisory, which actually all do contain this message at the very bottom: (example: http://secunia.com/42850)
Do you have additional information related to this advisory?
Please provide information about patches, mitigating factors, new versions, exploits, faulty patches, links, and other relevant data by posting comments to this Advisory. You can also send this information to vuln@secunia.com

That said, this is obviously not clear/obvious enough, and once a thread has been created, it is no longer obvious that users should not post upgrading - or xSI-related questions to such a thread. This is agreed internally, and solutions will be examined.

hope this helps.

Thankyou for your attention/reply Emil. Whilst I can appreciate all that you've iterated : I think taffy may be suffering from internal trauma ! He's usually been much quicker responding.....I hope we'll all see some positive signs of life from him shortly !!
Have a good day !
