I want to suggest Areca Backup, but it's not possible to add it via PSI.
I always receive an error message, that says that the version couldn't be found, can you add it?

Hello.
As follows is a recent official response regarding software suggestions :-
To submit software suggestions, first verify that all settings corrospond to those described in this item of our FAQ: http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal...

Then, please keep in mind that not all files can be used to detect software, and some executables will therefore be rejected by the Software Suggestion feature. The file will need to have version information attacthed to it - to verify if this is the case, right-click the file you want to suggest, and select Properties > Version.

The file needs to have a version number appropriate to the actually installed version either in the "File Version", "Product Version", or "Version" field (The field shown as "File Version" at the top of this tab. The second "file version" is another field).

Hope it helps........regards,

But there is no version info, Areca is written in Java for all platforms, so there are no windows version info entries.
Is there another possibility?

Another question:
Does PSI just inform about security update or about all updates, because some software is not the latest version and PSI says, it was the latest and doesn't know anything about a newer version?

PSI checks for missing security updates.
If the installed version cannot be determined, it is impossible for Secunia PSI to monitor it.

Regarding suggesting software....I'm not aware of other possibilities. Secunia staff look thro' these posts most days; so if there were alternatives, they'd presumably have already intimated them. Perhaps you could contact the vendor yourself to see if they can help ?
Regarding psi updates....you are notified if a program becomes insecure,....not when an update does nothing to improve it's security.Does that clarify the matter for you ? Hope so......regards,
