Secunia has detected an end-of-life for Google Chrome 8.x and the link to install solution goes to a download. I currently have Google Chrome 9.x and it has checked for updates and says it is up to date.

I am not sure what Secunia wants me to do? Download Chrome from the link?

this has dropped my score to 98%

Hello.
Chrome does not remove the previous version automatically....psi continues to detect it.....you need to remove it manually.
Hope this helps......regards,

Hi Mogs

Thanks for the information but I first tried to remove the old version 8 using Add/Remove Programs. This did not work so I followed the path indicated by Secunia and moved the old version to the Recycle Bin.

Secunia still saw the old version as present so I emptied the Recycle Bin.

Secunia still sees the old version. Have you any other ideas?

Thanks v much

Tharmowl

I am still a little confused. Chrome appears to update itself and I do have version 9.0.597.84.

If I go to the Install link that Secunia is recommending, will Google just install what is necessary? Or do I need to uninstall my current version?

Thank you!

What path is PSI pointing to for the End of Life programme?

FINDING A FILE PATH - PSI VERSION 2

From the DASHBOARD page click on SCAN RESULTS.

1. This will list all your programmes with a + to the left of each one.
2. Click the + sign next to the item that U want help with.
3. This will reveal the path under DETECTED INSTANCES.
4. Highlight it then copy (CTRL+C) then paste (CTRL+V)) that path back to the Forum.

ALL OTHER PSI VERSIONS

To locate the exact file that the Secunia PSI has detected, use or switch to the ADVANCED interface, then :

1 Click on the + sign of the programme to "expand' it.
2 Click on Technical Details in the Toolbox to see the installation path of the detected file. (Copy (CTRL+C) & paste (CTRL+V)) the Installation Path of the file back to the Forum.

Hello -

Thank you for those instructions (FYI - I am using PSI2

Here is the info you requested:

Google Chrome 8.x 1 End-of-Life 8.0.552.237 9.x Install Solution
Detected Instances:
C:\Users\FCUSA\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Applica tion\8.0.552.237\chrome.dll, version 8.0.552.237

Latest Version - patching one or more vulnerabilities:
9.x

You can double click this row for additional information and options.

BTW - thank you for such detailed instruction - fairly novice user.

Additionally, I do see that this says ver 8 - but the info in 'HELP' in Google Brower says 9x? and appears to check for updates everytime you pull it up?

This is what U have given me from PSI.

C:\Users\FCUSA\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Applica tion\8.0.552.237\chrome.dll, version 8.0.552.237

U need to RIGHT click on it & select delete.

To do this U can use the OPEN FOLDER option in PSI. It is the Yellow folder next to the entry without the red dot or use Windows Explorer.
