Thanks to everyone who answered this query yesterday - brief history follows:

FCUSA said "Secunia has detected an end-of-life for Google Chrome 8.x and the link to install solution goes to a download. I currently have Google Chrome 9.x and it has checked for updates and says it is up to date."

Mogs added "Chrome does not remove the previous version automatically....psi continues to detect it.....you need to remove it manually."

I then asked "Thanks for the information but I first tried to remove the old version 8 using Add/Remove Programs. This did not work so I followed the path indicated by Secunia and moved the old version to the Recycle Bin. Secunia still saw the old version as present so I emptied the Recycle Bin. Secunia still sees the old version.

Mogs asked "Have you rebooted before rescanning?"

Before I looked at the thread again it had been closed and marked as resolved.
but I still have the problem. I did reboot before rescanning.

Now when I click on "C:\Documents and Settings\Jim\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Applica tion\8.0.552.237\chrome.dll", where PSI sees the folder, nothing happens, as the folder has been deleted.

Google Chrome v.9.0.597.84 is working fine.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Jim

Hi Jim ,

Are you saying that in your PSI (2.0) you still have Chrome version 8.0 displayed as "EOL" on the results page ??

You say the folder has gone AWOL ; so what happens if you click the [+] next to the programme entry and then click the small yellowish folder icon (without the red blob) just to the left of the "detected instance" ?? This icon should open the folder where the PSI is reading the supposedly installed file .

The PSI 2.0 no longer detects files in the recycle bin .

Have you done a full system scan and not just an individual programme scan ??

Anthony

Hi again Jim ,

In my experience the individual programme scan has never ever been reliable :((!!

If the Psi does not respond to programme changes in real time , then a full rescan , with or without reboot , is the best bet .

I run the Dev channel version of the Google Chrome Browser and Frame so I only get Google gears displayed on the results page of the PSI ; even so it (the PSI) usually warns me with it's tray pop-up bubble when there is a "silent" update happening - if my PC dropping to a crawl has not already alerted me .

Glad you are back to speed .

Take care

Anthony
