Chrome browser new stable version 9.0.597.84 is not showing up in Secure Browsing.

It does show up in scan results as up to date.

Chrome was showing up in secure browsing before this update as secure.
I have scanned, rebooted and rescanned.

Any ideas why PSI 2.0 is not picking it up in secure browsing ?

Secure browsing does show IE (insecure) and Firefox 3.6 (secure)

Thanks in advance
Seadley

Same problem here. I have Google Chrome version 9.0.597.84 and it is not being picked up by Secunia scan. Scan shows end of life for 4.x ver. of Chrome yet mine is up to date and is not being recognized by Secunia.

I've been running Chrome 9.0.597.86 beta for a couple of months without any problems. Today PSI recognized it for the first time and lists it as secure.
But the Chrome version screen still shows the 'beta' tag, while also telling me that I'm up to date. My guess is that the tag will disappear in a day or so.

@NCFIRE
Today PSI is showing 9.0.597.84 as secure in secure browsing. It just showed up. Has it showed up for you in secure browsing ?
If you still have the files on your computer I suggest getting rid of the 4x. Chrome Browser.

@smallbiz
I have been running chrome 9.0.597.86 beta on my desktop, as well as IE 9, and as with all things beta they have not shown up in PSI. I am surprised .86 shows up in your PSI. I will look for it to show up.

Thanks for replying to my question.
As far as I am concerned as .84 now shows up in secure browsing my part of this thread is finished.
Although I would like to know what the delay was.

Odd, it worked for me: PSI told me today that Chrome 8.x is obsolete, I found an "update button" (the "Info" in the tools), after the update PSI was happy with 9.x

BUT

PSI was still unhappy with 8.x, apparently Chrome keeps the older version. I went to the folder shown by PSI and deleted it, clicked "scan again", and PSI 1.5.0.2 was really happy (no obsolete software).

BUT

In a full scan PSI found the deleted Chrome 8.x in the windows 7 bin (recycler), and was again unhappy. IMO scanning the recycler is a bug, i.e., a feature in need of some documentation / explanation.

Back to your question, do you use the new 2.0 or the old 1.5.0.2 PSI?

Beta Channel Update
Wednesday, February 2, 2011 | 19:43
Labels: Beta updates

The Beta channel has been updated to 9.0.597.86 for Windows and Chrome Frame.

Flash player sandboxing has been re-enabled in this release.

If you find new issues, please let us know by filing a bug at http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/entry

Google Chrome

On Feb 1st the Beta Update was to 9.0.597.84.....the now Stable version.( From 3/2/11)

Psi does not monitor Beta/Dev nor Canary builds tho' the changes with Gears appear.

It has been quite usual for the changes with Chrome Stable to take a little time to effect; and on more than one occasion have been exacerbated by the weekend.

Google has just auto-updated me from 9.0.597.84 beta to 9.0.597.96 beta. First impression is that it loads even faster. And yes, PSI is recognizing and reporting it as secure.

On t'other hand, it has also taken red bars off my rarely-used copy of IE, while continuing to flag IE as insecure for browsing. Go figure, as we say in the USA!

I'm having trouble with your statements/figures smallbiz !
If Secunia is showing a version of Chrome as secure...it's the Stable version which has again changed......copy/extract below :-

I think you've just pointed out that Google is at fault: when Google did the upgrade it should have removed the beta flag from its 'About' screen . . . just as it should also now be claiming copyright for 2011 (tsk, tsk -- hasty or lazy??).

Good Secunia! Bad Google!

It's the way you're writing it :-
Google has just auto-updated me from 9.0.597.84 beta to 9.0.597.96 beta. First impression is that it loads even faster. And yes, PSI is recognizing and reporting it as secure.

What you are now "saying" is that you got the info from Chrome in About. Whereas psi is not saying Beta Chrome is secure...it's saying version 9.0.597.94 is......yes ?

Yes -- Google is at fault in this. The 'beta' tag is theirs, not Secunia's.

Google's 'About' screen has shown a beta tag since I loaded the precursor to .84 --- I'm betting that it'll disappear without comment within a week or so, especially 'cos the lawyers will get hot under the collar about copyright not yet being claimed for 2011.
This is the end of the thread for me.

If you can use it on all your boxes it is probably fine, but I still have an old W2K box. So far I think the PSI 2.0 UI is less technical, and I love some features of the old 1.5.x UI (e.g., suggest missing program, go to folder of scanned program, etc.). I'll switch later to 2.0 when I'm ready with moving / porting stuff from W2K to Win7.

Thanks, Frank

One day later: Now PSI says that Chrome 9.0.597.84 (installed yesterday) is not more secure, but Chrome 9.0.597.84 claims to be the actual version. That could be a locale issue, I use the German UI for Chrome, and I started to use a PSI release candidate before there was a German UI for PSI (wild guess).

Just a follow up to show what can happen, possibly because Chrome seems to be updating so quickly.

My laptop is on the Chrome browser secure release schedule it shows 9.0.597.98. PSI 2.0 shows it correctly.

My desktop is on Chrome browser beta release and shows 9.0.597.98 beta.
PSI picks this up as the secure release.

Chrome browser beta has moved beyond .98 so PSI is showing correctly and I seem to have been kicked off the beta upgrades.

Strange. Has anyone else experienced this ? Obviously a Chrome thing.

I am running Windows 7 and PSI 2.0 on both computers.

Regards,
Seadley

The latest releases of Chrome Stable/Beta/Dev are shown here :-
http://googlechromereleases.blogspot.com/

I think you may be getting confused by what may be showing in the Chrome About box.
Please bear in mind that Secunia does not monitor Beta/Dev versions...tho' it will show listings/changes with Gears.
Hope this helps......regards,

Thanks for the reply.

I do not think I am confused as to what the Chrome about boxes show. The question I am asking is based on what shows in the Chrome about boxes on both my computers.

I do understand Secunia PSI does not report beta.
I did acknowledge the question I am asking applies more to Chrome than PSI reporting.
I would just if my observations have been observed by anyone else.

I am now curious to see what happens at the next Chrome beta update.

All the best,
Seadley

Yes. The behavior has been noted before.

Therefore I need to understand the following :
The beta channel updates every month.
As you state, the current Chrome beta release is 9.0.597.86.

The current stable release is 9.0.587.98.

Does the beta channel automatically default to the stable channel because .98 is higher than .86 ?
Or should the Chrome beta channel still be showing .86 on my computer, as I subscribe to the Chrome beta channel.

I have looked around on the Chrome site and cannot find a reference to this.
Any input you have will help put my mind at rest.

Thanks mogs,
Seadley

@Seadley I can't help on that score, other than to say, I've had no incidence of the behaviour with the Dev nor Canary build: and occasionally their version numbers have been identical, and even reversed....whereas, by version numbers you'd expect the Canary build to always be ahead.....being as it's the "bleedin' edge".
Are you positive you began with Beta version from the Chrome site ? Else maybe it's a way of "urging" users to move forward perhaps ? All supposition on my part of course !
Maybe you oughta try the Dev ?

Thanks again for your reply.
Your answer helped with unusual situation.

Yes, I did sign up for the Beta channnel.
I will wait for the next Beta update to see what happens.
If nothing changes, I will follow your advice and try the Dev channel.

Until next time,

Now that I am proudly on the Dev channel and Chrome about is showing
10.0.648.45 Dev, Secunia is showing the build in secure browsing.

Is this your experience. Does the Dev channel show up in secure browsing for you? Or should it not show up as it is not the latest secure build?

I would like to know what to look for in the future and to further understand the process.

Thanks,
seadley
