@ Foerwol

The latest stable version of Google Earth is 5.2.1.1588 as you can see in a screenshot of my PSI @:

http://i52.tinypic.com/30ufi4z.jpg

So you have to replace your version with the one I mentioned by googling for it because the latest google earth is version 6 and still in beta and PSI as far as I know donít recognize beta versions.

Good luck.

If you have seen the mentioned thread in my last response, and open the screenshot of my PSI, you should vue that google earth is patched.
Perhaps someone at Secunia will correct this for you.

Good luck.

What path is PSI giving U for the End of Life?

FINDING A FILE PATH - PSI VERSION 2

From the DASHBOARD page click on SCAN RESULTS.

1. This will list all your programmes with a + to the left of each one.
2. Click the + sign next to the item that U want help with.
3. This will reveal the path under DETECTED INSTANCES.
4. Highlight it then copy (CTRL+C) then paste (CTRL+V)) that path back to the Forum.

ALL OTHER PSI VERSIONS

To locate the exact file that the Secunia PSI has detected, use or switch to the ADVANCED interface, then :

1 Click on the + sign of the programme to "expand' it.
2 Click on Technical Details in the Toolbox to see the installation path of the detected file. (Copy (CTRL+C) & paste (CTRL+V)) the Installation Path of the file back to the Forum.

U should be able to produce a report like @Foerwol has on his first post.

Having cancelled the ignore rule for Google U run a full PSI scan. The result of that scan is publish in Scan Results.

Against the Google Earth entry is a + sign. Click that & it reveals Detected Instances - below that U will see this "You can double click this row for additional information ......."

Double click on the writing & a box will appear. In that box click Troubleshoot Report>another box will appear which gives the exact information.

Highlight the text from Start to Finish then press CTRL+C (copy)

Now post the information to the Forum using CTRL+V (paste)

Thank U. That is not End of Life & as U rightly say is the latest stable version.

What I cannot understand is why @gjjean is showing it correctly as secure.

1. Please confirm U have not got any Google items still in the Ignore Rule box.

If U have recently removed them from being ignored have U completed a full PSI scan?

2. Are there any other Google Earth entries in the Scan Results list? If so what are/is the paths?

Very odd - I will ask Secunia Support to look at this thread for U.

As far as I am concerned U are secure with the latest non Beta version.

Hello all ,

The PSI 2.0 is currently displaying my Google Earth installation as version 6.0.1.2032 and up to date on the results page for my machine .

Google are known to overlap at times with stable and Beta version numbers ; if the PSI is reporting/displaying platform 6.x and is presuming a stable version then it will report platform 5.x as "EOL" - it does the same when reporting Google Chrome browser platforms .

I will try to check on release details (later , hopefully) .

Take care

Anthony

@ foerwol

Happy that you sorted your problem with MJ.

@ Anthony wells

AFAIK Google Earth 6.0.1.2032 has been around from 16.Dec.2010 and still in beta.
Even if you go to Google page to download the program, at the end of the page they inform you that you are downloading version 6.0 (BETA).

So how come that secunia said (NOT MONITORING BETA PROGRAMS) and how your version is up to date on your machine?

Nice to talk to you after a long period.

I have just heard from Secunia Support - there is an issue with Google Earth that they are working on.

They will post their findings here once complete.

I escaped! On closer examination, it appears that when Google installs the beta version 6 it does not clear out all of the old temporary executables etc. relating to version 5 from Windows/Temp and Users/{userid}/Appdata/Temp. Furthermore, a complete deinstall of GE does not clear them out either, or the V6 ones, for that matter. PSI - quite rightly - still checks these, so it finds all the old crap lying about. A bit of manual housekeeping on these folders to delete these items cleans the system up and then PSI is quite happy. Oh, and as a bit of a bonus you get a load of disk space back. Which comes back to the suspicion I expressed in my first message (in a now mysteriously vanished thread) that it was Google's fault. It is!

Hi
Google Earth 6.x is the version users are offered by default when downloading Google Earth from the vendors website:
http://www.google.com/earth/index.html
In our view Google are thereby indicating that this version is stable enough to run on a production system. This is why we are treating Google Earth 6.x as a stable version, even though Google may consider it a beta.

After investigating this issue further it turns out that the latest vulnerability for Google Earth 5.x has been silently fixed in version 5.2.1.1588. We have now updated our advisory accordingly and are no longer considering Google Earth 5.x as end-of-life. Users of an insecure version of Google Earth 5.x will now get the download for the patched and secure version of Google Earth 5.x.

I understand the confusion this has caused and I hope this makes the situation a bit clearer.

Well the version 6 beta is anything but stable on my machine....invariably crashes about 30 seconds in in OpenGL mode, and doesn't seem to think my videocard can support DirectX mode.

Rolled back to the 5.2.1.1588 version and all is OK again.

Downloaded the 5.2.1.1588 installer from Filehippo as couldn't find it on the Google site.
