I uninstalled the version I had and then installed this newest version, 11.5, and now I'm getting the item above showing in my End-of-Life tab.

It is located: C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Shockwave 10\SwOnce.dll

Could someone tell me how I should deal with it?

Try the uninstaller from this page: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates...

Hello Nikilet ,

In a previous thread (answered by Maurice Joyce) you had a similar problem with Adobe Shockwave version 10.x . :-

http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/564...

Some programmes still use version 10.x when the current version is 11.x , atm version 11.5.9.620 is secure for all browsers .

if you use a programme that needs version 10.x it will load it or ask you to load it . It exists in a sort of no-man's land where it is an old platform and so "End of Life" , according to Secunia's detection rules for the PSI , but does not appear to be "insecure" as Adobe are said to keep an eye on it ; the latest "associated" version is 10.4.1.32.

There is a long and quite complicated explanation of the "association" made in this thread :-

http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/751...

You can delete the 10.x version safely , but if it reappears , that means you have/use a programme (maybe a website) which needs it . You need then to decide if you wish to continue to utilise that programme and , if so , whether it is worth taking what seems to be the small risk in/of it's requirement for the "EOL" Shockwave player version .

A little complicated , but that is the way it is I'm afraid .

Take care

Anthony

I have had no instance of this version 10 x for a very long time. When I just uninstalled 11.5.9.615 and then installed 11.5.9.620 it appeared again.

So I suppose this means I'll have to go through the whole uninstall and then reinstall process again to see if I can get rid of it.

SHOCKWAVE

I hope Adobe have updated all their games for U if U are still subscribing to Adobe.com.

U really need to do this:

1. Uninstall Shockwave for your OS from the clearly marked link here:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates...

2. Reboot to clear out any left over ocx files.

3. Reinstall Shockwave from here:
http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/

4. If you wish to test your new Shockwave Player the link is here:

I went through the steps again to uninstall, reinstall and then test Shockwave Player. I did restart after uninstalling. Everything is OK once again.

Thanks everyone!

Maurice: Any update on your opinion of the new psi?

Are U using it?

Edit: They have changed the URL to two sites which gave U the opportunity of reading the User Manual before download.

Matters not. From where I am sitting it works very well. If U do download it a User Manual is included which is very helpful.

I'm wondering if there is something I am missing. I looked at the manual and there really isn't all that much there. If there is something special you think I need to take to heart, please advise. Otherwise I guess I will go ahead and download the new version.

See above & my edit. I agree - what they offer now on the link I gave U is a Chocolate Fireguard to a home user.
