I am receiving the message:
"This installation of Microsoft Windows XP Professional is insecure and potentially exposes your system to security threats!"

However, when I click on the Download Solution button, and am taken to Windows Update, WU reports:
"No high-priority updates for your computer are available."

This problem began after accepting the latest update of Secunia PSI...

In addition, the "Solution Wizard" and "Ignore Program" buttons are grayed out.

Did you restart your PC after applying the updates from microsoft? Some updates requires your to restart before they are installed correctly.

I'm getting the same message for XP Pro SP3. I've been to Windows Update, and found "No high-priority updates for your computer are available." as well.

Restarting my system is really not a solution as there were no updates to install, and I have restarted my system many times since the last Windows Update (November).

Same here...nothing to update, but I restarted my computer anyway. Same false reading. The problem is (apparently) with Secunia PSI.

I'm happy for you, but that doesn't help solve the problem that at least two of us are having.

I wonder if it's at all possible to communicate directly with Secunia about this issue...or if they are even monitoring their Forum?

There is definitely something wrong. It's a pain to have PSI informing me that I have a major security issues when neither Microsoft nor Norton agree. I am VERY careful to install updates on MS and all other applications.

Where do we turn next?

Just to clarify, we are monitoring this forum on a daily basis and we're naturally always willing to step in with additional assistance.

We are aware that Microsoft has problems with some of their updates, especially regarding the XML Core Services patch from November.

Some cases have been successfully solved by following the guidelines that Microsoft have published here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941729/

Please do let us and other users know if this solves your problem.

Thanks, but I already implemented the steps on the MS support page that you cited. Didn't do a thing, unfortunately, except stop Windows Update from bugging me about the Core update. Secunia still finds a problem where there doesn't seem to be one.

It's GOOD to know that you folks at Secunia are monitoring the Forum! I'm sure that PSI users can often help each other, but it wasn't happening in this case.

Chuck

OK! I found a fix that seems to work at http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/618286-mic...

I downloaded the required file from Windows downloads. I then ran the installation file and REMOVED the file form Windows. I then rebooted, and then ran the installation again. It ran successfully, requiring a reboot. After the reboot, I ran Windows Update again, and there were NO outstanding critical updates!

**HOWEVER, while Secunia PSI no longer reports the XML Core file to be out of date, it STILL reports windows as "insecure".**

It seems that Secunia still needs to find a way to eliminate this false positive.

The next time Secunia PSI scanned, everything came up patched and secure. Guess it just needed time to find the patched MS file.

Hooray!
