I have tried to update Microsoft Word 2000 but it won't take. I followed all the instructions after hitting "download solution". It is located in Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office which should work. Any ideas? Howard |

Hello Howard, Have you installed the latest service packs for your office programs? Alternatively, try visiting Office Update from microsoft: http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate/ -- Big Dave |

The download will only update word 2000 if you have OFFICE 2000 installed. For example if you are using anything less than office 2000, and you updated to word 2000. The download will not install. I doubt it will install if all you have is word 2000??? Would be nice if Secunia could help. |

Seems there are some issues with the Microsoft office updaters (I suspect it is when the components are installed as part of Works). As always, following is at your own risk, no warranties etc... If you can't get the installer to work, there is a manual way to install the files: 1. note the folder in which PSI says the vulnerable files are (advanced mode) 2. Copy the files in the above folder into a zip folder (as a backup and so PSI ignores them later) 3. Download the Microsoft update using "PSI download solution" to disk (instead of run) 4. Install a program that can open archives like 7-zip (www.7-zip.org) 5. Open the Microsoft update file as an archive (in 7-zip right click, select 7-zip | open archive) 5a.==> In the archive open file called "WinWord.msp" 5b. ==> in the archive for the file "winword.msp" open "PCW_CAB_H12000_1", this contains winword.exe 6. Copy the "winword.exe" file from the archive over the file in the originally noted folder. 7. Ask PSI to rescan, and hopefully no more warnings for this application |

I have ms 2000 office version 9.0.0.xxxx 0 SR-1. While tried to run SP-3 or update for 2000 word in a separate session it always give this message: "The expected verson of the product was not found on your system" - (The directory path is correct). I have pkzip - 7-zip downloaded file is corrupt. Is this a dead end? |

Hi;armengarod & Estarina; MS has disscontinued support for Office 2000 (see artical in softpedia @ http://news.softpedia.com/news/Office-2000-Support... ). The only options are 1) Upgrade to a newer version of Office; 2) Continue to use Office 2000 even though it's insecure; 3) Change to a differnt office type suite such as Open Office (which is free BTW). Thank you very much for your help. Nevertheless I have a question: Office 2000 Support ends in July, 2009 - why Secunia PSI shows now (5 months later) that the programms are insecurely? I thought, that Secunia PSI only shows programms, which have updates since the last scan. The programm also show programms, where the support ended? Best regards. Estarina |

Hi Microsoft Office 2000 is now EOL, and that fact was just recently discovered by us. Normally it's considered good practice to let the users of the program know that the software is no longer support and they should upgrade to a supported version. Due to the amount of software in our database and the lack of "good practice" it makes it impossible to keep track of possible EOL's for all the software. Some vendors do however follow the good practice and we can then flag the software EOL the same day as the vendor provides with the information. If any of you think you might have some EOL programs that the PSI does not flag as EOL, we would greatly appreciate if you could send us an email with the details Email: support@secunia.com -- Kind regards, Morten Hansen Secunia PSI Support Secunia PSI http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal |
