The idea of "Secunia" is brilliant but unfortunately it does NOT WORK usefully on my Windows XP PC My OS has been installed for about two years and Secunia's first scan showed 70 risks. On closer inspection there were really only five, all the rest were homnyms, that is programs that had beed updated by the maker like Firefox and Adobe Reader. They all had to be deleted individually. The correction process was very slow, about two minutes per item even though I have a very high speed broad band connection, so I had to give up as it was gogin to take an hour's manual work to make the corrections. It would be a nice prugram if it had the ability to do multliple correction of duplicates. I hope this happens -- Onclejean |

You don't need to sit and wait between applying each fix to your system. You could just as easily make 10 or 70 :) changes at once and then make a new scan with the psi. I often patch two or three programs before I re-scan my system and let the psi pick up my changes. -- Big Dave |

Don't blame the messenger (PSI) if you've allowed your PC to get lots of out-of-date programs or other security risks on it over a period of 2 years. It's merely giving you information and helping you fix it - once you've done the back-log, it should be easier to keep it up-to-date. | ||||||||

It is not that I have failded to update my applications: however possibly my system is too complex for Secunia. After several scans I am left with some 40 threats and they are all honoyms. They fall into these groups 1 Adobe AIR 1.x 2 Apple QuickTime 7.x 3 Foxit Reader 2.x 4 Mozilla Firefox 3.x 5 WinRAR 3.x 6 WinZip 10.x I do not recognise Adobe Air 1. The other applications are found on different disks. My system is a mission critical server which has four layers of on line backup (as well as offline hard disk). So from disk 1 to disk four there is the same OS and application updated successively every night and then repeated c system = current master d current= updated every night e father = updated every other day f grandfather = updated every second day I usae Caspar five to make the bakcups which take about three minutes for 80 GB -- Onclejean |
