Running PSI v. 2.0.0.3001, XP Home SP3, auto-updates on automatic for PSI.

Just got a notice from Adobe indicating there was a new update from Adobe re the above version (NPAPI). I do not have the IE8 version installed.

New version to be updated is showing as 10.2.152.32, old version remains installed (have not uninstalled as of yet), that one is 10.2.152.26.

This notification from Adobe appeared on system reboot, nothing has appeared from PSI. A check of file properties (digital signatures) indicated the signing date to be February 22, 2011 when I manually downloaded the newest file directly from Adobe.

As I am still waiting for PSI to do its' thing (auto-update), I note a full manual scan does not show a new update for Adobe either. Does Secunia need to update their records for automatic updating to occur or is there something wrong with the updating feature on my system? Is is both?

PSI is otherwise running flawlessly on my system, no problems whatsoever.

Thanks.

Don't use Adobe Flash myself and havn't been able to get at versions to check on their site.....as I use Chrome, it's integral.
What I suspect tho' may be that the updates may not be security fixes (?)....psi won't update just for bug/cosmetic reasons.
Hope this helps......regards,

It is an cosmetic/enhancement update version - details here:

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/features...

Despite that fact, a full rescan of PSI will reveal that the latest ActiveX version is asset tracked & displays correctly.

I suspect that once U uninstall all old versions and complete a full PSI rescan the latest version for non IE will also appear in PSI.

mogs & Maurice Joyce,

Both of your answers are very germane to the issue above.

I will delve further into posted information about updates at Adobe and elsewhere when it is apparent PSI does not offer a security vulnerability update as such; I was amiss in not readily discerning the difference.

I would expect the auto-update feature to run as designed when such an update is offered, many thanks there. Does the auto-update automatically uninstall the previous version or is it necessary to uninstall prior to updating?

In the future, if I do announce an update of this type, it will be prefaced as a cosmetic non-security update.

Thanks.

Yes - that is why it may take time to update. For a successful uninstall & reinstall to take place adobe requires that:

All browsers are shutdown & any other programme using Flash to are shut as well for example:

1. Windows Messenger.
2. Other Adobe products.
3. Incredimail.
4. PSI other than version 2.

If U want to do it manually try this:

Uninstall Flash using the clearly marked (4/11/2010) uninstaller here:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html SAVE IT TO DESKTOP

Before using the uninstaller COMPLETELY EXIT (just closing them is not sufficient) all these:

a. All Browsers.
b. Windows Messenger.
c. Incredimail.
d. Adobe Free Reader.
e. PSI unless using Version 2.

1. Download & SAVE these to desktop.
http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/curren...

& then here if U have any Gecko based (Firefox etc) browsers.

http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/curren...

2. The installer will appear on the desk top. THE IMPORTANT BIT - Before agreeing to install check these programmes are completely shut down (use the Task Manager if necessary to COMPLETELY EXIT the running process):
a. All Browsers.
b. Windows Messenger.
c. Incredimail.
d. All Adobe Products.
e. PSI - Unless using version 2

3. The new install will then remove all old files during the update process.
4. Complete a PSI rescan & all should be in order.
5. Delete the Flash installer file from the desktop.

If U want to double check Flash is working & the version installed click here: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

Maurice,

Thanks, Maurice.

I will be updating this file shortly; it seems the most recent update to FF, version 3.6.14 has just come in. However, this is so new that there is no place to do a separate download of this version yet, not even on Mozilla.

It is possible to upgrade directly from the browser itself; however, I prefer not to do it that way.

So, I am going to wait until the dust settles and grab that download when it becomes available, probably tomorrow.

Thanks.
