i have PSI v1.5.0.2. It works fine. PSI keeps reminding me to move up to v2.0, but i see on this forum that many people are having problems with 2.0. should i move up or wait until until the dust settles?

Go for it - it works flawlessly plus this may help make up your mind as well:

LIFESPAN OF PSI VERSIONS

This statement was made by a Secunia Official on 10th January 2011.

"For now, there are no immediate plans to 'break' the old versions, though we do not offer support for any other versions than 2.0.

However, we do strongly recommend that everybody upgrade to the newest versions, and can unfortunately not make any promises of continued support for older or beta versions.

Eventually, you can probably expect that they will be discontinued".

Hello muffin !
Maybe it is too big a leap from 1.5.0.2 to psi 2.0 ? All the excitement and Beta phase you missed ? Maybe that's a lot of dust to settle ? There's many more that havn't had any problems of course.....it's always been so on the forum, whatever version....there's rarely any rhythmical swaying nor kiss ?!
It may not be suicidal....you may fall in love.....tis likely you'll never miss ?!
Good luck and regards......play it safe !!

I am having no greater problems with 2.0 since upgrade one month ago, Feb. 10. V2.0 is maybe more stable - v1.5.0.2 kept losing my profile and history at times. Time will tell.

The GUI is simpler/cleaner.

Recommend uninstall of v1.5.0.2, and restart Windows, before installing v2.0.

There are a couple of things that didn't improve. PSI still claims that an unpatched VC++ 2005 Redistributable Package exists but Windows Add or Remove Programs shows the versions all patched (see Forum threads).

PSI cannot rescan the single app (e.g., the Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package) to see if the database of patches has been updated to remove this false alert - now, PSI insists on a full system scan or else it will not scan at all. IMHO, PSI should know where it scanned before, and should know where the patch makes changes - - PSI ought to re-scan only the affected files/folders, to save my time. If I wanted a full system scan, that button is provided.

And when yesterday, Adobe pushed a new patch to upgrade Flash Player v10.2.152.26 that includes security fixes and other things, PSI had not yet recognized the 26 as unpatched. But, this is really new, per Adobe.

I moved up to v2.0.0.3001, and on balance, I am not sorry - - yet!

Hi ,

Concerning scanning , in my experience , the single programme re-scan has never been very effective and a full system scan actually (pften) saves time .

M$ "security" updates have always and continue to require a reboot and full system scan - sometimes repeated and including a recheck at the M$updates site - for the update to be correctly en-registered .

The version 2.0.x of the PSI often records an update in real time - including a tray icon balloon - and is a big improvement over 1.5.x .

If it were me , I would test drive the latest version 2.0.0.3001 ; download link at the top right of this page , goes to download page and this installer :-

http://secunia.com/PSISetup.exe

If it were not my cup of tea or gave me insuperable installation , set up problems , I could always choose to go back to version 1.5.0.2 . with this link (from lower down the download page) :-

http://secunia.com/PSI1Setup.exe

To install , I would download the installer yo my Desktop , I would close/exit the PSI and run the installer and let it remove the old and install the new .

But that's just me .

Take care

Anthony
