There is no posting in this forum concerning my problem, and no one in the web, as searched with Google, so I ask you for help:

When I last updated Java 6.23 with Secunia PSI an my Win XP SP3 notebook, it failed and stuck.

I tried to remove Java from my computer manually, first with uninstall routine, then by deleting every Java file from the directoriy and from the registry.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to re-install Java 6.24 or even 6.23. Two times, I've earned a error message like:

- This software is already installed on your computer. Do you want to install it again? -> Yes.
- Error with the transformers. Make sure that the transform paths are available. -> Ok.

Meanwhile it says:

- This software is already installed on your computer. Do you want to install it again? (Java Setup) -> Yes.
- This action is only allowed for products, which are currently installed. (Windows Installer) -> Ok.

Secunia PSI says, I have a Java console 6.x as an extension for Firefox. I have un-activated it in Firefox now.

For the moment, I have no need for Java running on my computer. But it seems to me al little bit scaring, that the system keeps stuck with this issue, and I wouldn't feel easy with it. Can someone help me installing Java again and repairing this problem? Thanks in advance!

Hello.
Have you tried scanning with psi to let it detect the troublesome/vulnerable file/version ?
It will then provide you with the file path to it which you can follow to remove.

Have you read thro' the following thread which may also help :-
http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/793...

Hope it helps......regards,

Thank you very much for responding!

I've done both of your recommendations before.

Try this tool:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-clean...

It is no-longer supported by Microsoft. Once installed just scroll down the list & remove any entries U can see for JAVA.

Be careful how U use it. It should NOT be used now or in the future to remove Microsoft Office products if U elect to keep it installed after U have fixed this problem.

My advice is to uninstall it once used.

Thank you for your advice. Although it's not provided any more by Microsoft itself, as it caused problems with Office 2007 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Installer_Cle...), I've installed and started it. It showed an entry for Java Updater 2.0.2.4, and I let it remove it. When I now tried to install jre-6u24-windows-i586-s.exe, the same messages returned, unfortunately. Do you have another idea?

Hello.
Have you tried Revounstaller.....providing of course it does detect an instance of Java on your system ?
If it does, there are various levels to opt for regarding removal.
There are free and pro versions available here :-
http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_fr...
It also contains other useful tools....most notably Junk File cleaner and Evidence remover.....physically erases any traces of previously removed. I use them both regularly.
Anyrate, just a suggestion......regards,

Thanks again.

Yes, I have applied Revo Uninstaller already, and it did not find Java leftovers.

There is also this tool here :-
http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/moveonboot.h... which seems suited to XP. It is shown by Secunia here :-
http://secunia.com/advisories/vendor/1949/
I've got no experience of it, but I'm quite sure I've seen it put forward on the forum before. Might be worth looking at........

Move On Boot can only be used if U can identify the file to be removed. It does not remove folders.

As U can see here Oracle have no idea what causes this error.
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/error_applyin...

Is anything identifiable in Windows Explorer?

Have U looked in the Registry for all JAVA entries?

Thank you both for your patient help.

I have left out the MoveOnBoot program, for it does not seem to touch my problem.

Until your posting, I have not known the note of Oracle on their Java web site. Thank you for finding this error report, for it makes me waiting hopefully for a solution.

In Windows Explorer, I have searched all relevant directories and deleted everything containing Java files manually.

The same in the Windows Registry.

Hi all

I don't have Java(tm) installed but I have in days
past seen people on this forum suggest a removal tool called javaRa. It's a free download. Documentation
can be found here http://raproducts.org/javara.html

Download from a trusted source is here http://sourceforge.net/projects/javara/

Good luck & hope this helps.

Regards, wr

Maybe this will help:
How to Remove Programs with Delete Command Prompt
Author: Tomaz | Posted at: 4/18/2009 | Filed Under: tutorial |
One of the the tasks you can do using command prompt is to completely uninstall every program in your computer. Of course it is far easier to use standard add/remove or special third-party uninstallers but in some rare cases there is no other way to uninstall program than through command prompt. For example when you have to boot into corrupted Windows with so called boot with command prompt. EXANPLE: Here we are going to take a look at how to uninstall CCleaner using delete command prompt function.

Open Start>run>cmd. Enter "cd %programfiles%" and press enter. Type "dir /p" without quotes. You will see the list of all your programs now. To delete-uninstall CCleaner type rd /s "CCleaner" and press "Y". This will permanently delete this program so be sure you know this is what you want.

You can delete any program using this method just replace the name with what you want to delete. Read also how to uninstall programs using command prompt.
OR
How to Remove Programs Thru Appwiz.Cpl

1
Close the program you want to uninstall if you are currently using it. After a second or two, the program's process shuts down in the Task Manager.
2
Click the Windows "Start" menu and click "Run" or "Start Search" depending on the operating system you are using. Type "appwiz.cpl" and press "Enter" to launch the installed programs window.
3
Select the program you want to uninstall and click "Remove" or "Uninstall." If prompted, type your administrator password and click "OK." Follow the guided prompts to complete the uninstall. Uninstall instructions vary with different programs, so follow them carefully. If prompted, restart your computer when the uninstall completes.
Hopefully,if you can find it and get it out of p.c. ,you can then re-install

After Secunia's update attempt stuck, my first step was to uninstall Java 6.23 with the conventional Windows Wizard, which is the same, what you start when using "Run" and "Appwiz.Cpl".

After that I have already deleted every trace of Java in my file system and in the registry with the Windows Explorer, which is equal to your recommendation of using the "Cmd" and DOS-commands.

Thank you for your help.

I can't find any "java" with dir by the command window anywhere.

Meanwhile, after learning Maurice's hyperlink to Sun Java error report, I hope for a solution coming through a patch by the Java distributor himself.

I have no ambitions to re-install my operating system and all my other settings and programs, because this would keep me some days from my regular work ...

Kind regards to every supporter,
csi

That is the best way forward. It is an Oracle problem & has nothing to do with Secunia Support.

Can U just confirm that when U do a full scan with PSI nothing is showing for JAVA in the SCAN RESULTS section.
