Cannot Verify Internet Connection or just extremely slow.

I have uninstalled the program then reinstalled it again and it did work only once.

Then it started to work again this time even slower 1-2minutes to connect.

This is the only program I am having problems with.

W7 32bit
IE8

Hello.
Don't know exactly when you experienced the events you describe....but Secunia has been doin' maintenance work over the last couple of days.See the following forum thread.

As you have upgraded to the latest 2.0.0.3001 version of psi, presumeably....it might be a good idea to have a look thro' the newer FAQ's here :-

Every thing OK there but now not verifying even after 2 min.

So it's stuck on "Verifying internet connection" error message.....or you are stuck with a blank screen ? You are certain of the settings being configured aright ,to allow psi to work ?
When you re-installed did you let it remove the previous version detected ? Did you clear out temp. files/browser cache before attempting ? Did you reboot after install ?
Have you thought of upgrading to IE9 ?
I'm not sure whether the maintenance work mentioned earlier is ongoing.....I wouldn't have thought so....there would have been another announcement, I would have thought. Have just checked psi with Vista and it's working perfectly.

It has worked twice perfectly since I uninstalled and reinstalled it



Have you thought of upgrading to IE9 ?
No way MS is still having problems with it pus there are whispers IE10 is being tried in the Beta version already.

I might just sit it out for a few days and see what happens.

I also do a good house keeping every night and a full cleaning once a week.

I even put my security Kaspersky in a "Pause" mode just in case it was that but it made no difference at all.

As you say Keith....if it has worked perfectly before.....it's likely inconsistancies elsewhere it seems. It is probably better to monitor it over a couple of days rather than be making any changes at this stage.
I only mentioned IE8 as I was never happy with it...it seemed in a perpetual state of sluggishness....as Secunia is reliant on IE to some extent I'm fairly sure it's lethargy filtered thro....since moving to IE9 very few indications of similar behaviour.....tho' I agree, it's not the panacea that it might have once been thought. I've stayed with my Chrome dev as default.

It worked today Mon 11th April 12.38pm, Vic Australia time.

It took 55seconds to Verify.

My question now is?
Is slow or is it average?
I fully realize there are many factors that can slow a computer up.

My Computer is very clean plus I am using ADSL 2+
I also have W7 and IE8

U are correct in that there are many factors that can make a PC slow.

My benchmark figures are:

Start Up (Verify Internet Connection) 0-5 Seconds.

Full PSI Scan 0-20 Seconds.

I only use IE. These figures are/have been consistent with IE 8 & now IE9 using the default 32 Bit browser.

IE 9 is working like a dream.

Hello Keith.
Obviously it varies from setup to setup. I just tried two runs from clicking on the icon to Dashboard present.....average...21secs. I know from previous posts that at least one W7 user scans much quicker.....I usually complete a scan in 2.5 to 3.0 mins. I'm using Mobile broadband and IE9 of course.
I have noticed before, that it sometimes takes time to settle down and can improve even after a week

I ran the program today about noon 12th April

It took 40 seconds to connect then 27 seconds to complete.

I am still 100%

Hello Keith.
So it's improving all the while then ? I would heve thought a shift to IE9 would be an advantage.
I very often do a defrag before running a scan; I've found it often makes a difference. There's a program I've been using....must be approaching a year now I suppose....it performs a Boot-time defrag as well....and other optimizing features....have a read here if you're interested :-

Hello Mogs.

I use a program called Registry Reviver which now defrags the registry I also run the MS Defrag.

I run both of these programs once a week without fail

I am still using IE8 I am yet to be convinced about IE9 considering all the updates due tomorrow its going to be a massive one I believe.

Here's a clip from CClip 46 this month, Keith...that in turn was taken from a Softpedia post.



Customers running the recently released Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) RTM will have to deploy no less than eight Critical security bulletins, including one designed to resolve issues in Internet Explorer 8.

According to Microsoft, customers that upgraded to Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) RTW, launched globally in mid-March 2011, will not have to deploy any updates for their browser, since only IE8 and earlier versions are impacted by the Critical IE security bulletin.

2 boxes running Windows 7 x64 also briefly hung up at verifying internet connection - right after windows updates installed...

This one still came through today as "Important Update"

Its still there I am still running IE8

Todays times were
20 Seconds to Connect
31 Seconds to complete the test
Still 100%

Looks like its slowly improving.

Unsure why U have given details for IE9. That is the upgrade download being offered.

Microsoft have rated it Important rather than Recommended.

They are still supporting IE 6,7 & 8 so there is no hurry.

Just took a look at the Registry Reviver you mentioned Keith. I think I'll stick with what I've been using......ironically perhaps, Auslogics Registry Scanner !
I was also a bit of a fan of their "Defragware" until I found the Puran.....running a Boot-time defrag I'm sure improves things.......didn't know what it was until Maurice mentioned it some time ago !
IE9 has gotta knock a second or two off eh ?!!

Came here to find solution to same problem (or not exactly - in my case, the verify step wasn't slow; it just never got further). I didn't find a solution here or in the FAQ, but stumbled upon a solution and decided to share it anyway.

In my case, the problem was that for a reason or another, I had IE in offline mode. Once I had put it back to online mode, Secunia PSI started to work again.

I will have a look at that puran software also check with my security Kaspersky to make sure it is compatible first.

I will have to wait until after Easter to see if it speeds up a lot.

School Holidays and wet weather can slow things down a little where I am.

Never know where I am with Easter.....they seem to change the time every year !
Can never seem to imagine you with raindrops falling on your head in that part of the world !
I've found the Puran to be a very sensitive little program....hope you get something from it when you get the time.

In FAQ 3 under "Running and scanning" at this website:

I followed the advice given here:

"If this has still not fixed your problem, go back to the Internet Options, then go to Tools->Internet Options->Advanced->Security->Check for server certificate revocation.

The Secunia SSL certificate is signed by Thawte. If the Thawte site is not accessible from the computer, and if this option is selected, then the PSI will fail to connect to our site. So please remove the check at “Check for server certificate revocation". However, please understand that this means your computer would not notice if a site publisher revoked his/her certificate, which could indicate a theft or loss. If you are concerned about this, try the steps outlined below before this one to see if they solve the problem"


After removing this check, the PSI program loaded quickly and properly. After closing the program, I went back and rechecked the server certificate item. When I restarted PSI and it loaded properly and has done so several times since.
