Sometimes the PSI is not loaded on startup or its icon disappears in the taskbar after I wake my laptop up from standby. I have a Windows Vista laptop. I have not checked if the PSI.exe is running when the symbol is not there. I'm gonna do that when it happens the next time and post the result here.

I just found this today while looking for my own solution. It seems that PSI doesn't work well with Vista's UAC (User Account Control). PSI requires Administrator privilege. Rather than request credentials in UAC as most programs now do it silently fails to start in a limited account. It does start if you log in as Administrator.

I've worked around that, as suggested in another post (which I can't now locate) by unchecking "Start on Boot" and instead putting a shortcut to PSI.exe in my All Users startup folder (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup). This way I get a notice on login that Windows has blocked a program from starting. Clicking the system tray icon pops up a menu with the option to start the program. Then UAC pops up to allow me to enter Administrator credentials and PSI starts up and goes to the system tray when I close it.

This leaves me with my question: Setup option "Enable program monitoring" says it doesn't work without also enabling "Start on boot". The question: wouldn't it also work by the alternate startup method?
