I ran the installer for Chrome and installed version 11 fine. A rescan still shows version 10 as end of life. Only version 11 is shown in add and remove programs.

I had the same problem but doing a full scan fixed (removed) the problem. Hope this helps!

(I also had to remove the 10. folder from the appdata/chrome folder)

Go to the AppData folder. Path shown in PSI. And delete the folder with version 10

You can update Chrome by clicking on the Wrench/Spanner....top right of Chrome, and then click on About Google Chrome.....if you havn't already done so.
Then follow the file path as shown in your post to remove the older Stable version/file.
Carry out a full psi scan and all should show up to date.
There is still an anomaly being reported tho'; inasmuch that you will/should have updated to Stable version 11.0.696.60 ( the very latest )....whilst psi will tell you you need 11.0.696.57........the reason has already been given a number of times on the forum.....psi goes by the last security-fix update....whereas the '60 version was a bug fix release. You will be secure with the '60 version, and hopefully detection rules will be amended shortly to reflect it's status.
Hope this helps.......regards,

@F14Scott

As you will no doubt have noticed, this topic has generated a few threads on the forum: all containing some explanation as to the why's and wherefores of it's occurance.
Tho' there are anomalies in psi's detection of Chrome at present ( hopefully to be amended shortly ): the '57 and '60 versions are both secure. From what you state in your post it sounds as tho' you have a choice of which one to keep. Either way, you need to delete one of those and the Chrome 10 file/version to reduce your "attack surface" .
I've got into the habit of removing the older boulder immediately following a Chrome update.....with Dev and Canary it's possible to sometimes have three occurances in a day.
Hope this helps......regards,

Thank you very much for your reply.

AFAIK, I have only one version of Chrome on my computer, the most recent .60 version. I don't know why PSI is showing TWO older versions, 10.x and 11...57. When I go to "Programs and Features" to add/remove programs, the only Chrome that is there is the newest .60 version.

I don't know what the "boulder" is, nor do I know what Dev or Canary are. I infer they are related to removing outdated software.

I'd appreciate any further guidance you could provide.

Best,

Scott

@F14Scott

If you've already removed the older Chrome versions/files ( my slang....boulders !)...and yet psi is still seeming to detect them......have you carried out a full psi scan since, and rebooted, if necessary, to get the changes to register ?

EDIT......Chrome Dev channel and Canary build are other early release versions of Chrome.

I found and Recycle Binned the 10.x folder located:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application

Still there is the folder named: 11.0.696.60

After getting rid of the 10.x folder, my PSI warnings are down to one, with the .57 security warning even though PSI sees I'm on .60.

From your and others' descriptions, I understand that the remaining error is a PSI error that will be fixed soon.

I appreciate your directions and explanation of the current warning's bug. I'll stand by for the fix.

Best,
Scott

That's what I meant earlier.....you've updated to the '60 version.....you don't need the '57 folder either. If you delete that as well you'll simply have '60 but with the anomalie of being reported as "insecure" until such time as psi's detection rules are amended.
Hope this is clear for you.......regards,

Yes. I have only a .60 folder. I do not now, nor did I ever (today at least, when this issue first popped up in PSI) have a .57 folder; I found only two folders, 10.x and .60.

10.x is in the trash, now. 60 remains, and I shall wait for the fix.

Thanks again.

I see. A misunderstanding.....a little patience, and hopefully all will be in order then.

Hi,

As for the issue of Chrome 11.x being shown incorrectly unless you have exactly the latest secure version (No more and no less).
We corrected a minor issue with our version rules. If you run a full rescan, the proper security status should be shown.

Simple matter of "==" where it was supposed to be ">=".

As for old 10.x versions still being left on your system after installing 11.x, this is a result of Chrome's installer installing into a directory with the full version number in the patch (See the reports you posted). So while you have patched the security holes, Chrome fails to remove the older versions of itself.

This is a known bug that google have neglected to fix.

hope this helps.

Hello, It just came up on a scan the Google 10x is end of life but I checked 3 times to be sure what version of Google Chrome I have and it shows it is up to date with 11.0.696.60 as the current version.

I just want to be sure I have the information correct before doing anything.

So, all I have to do is run a full scan with Secunia PSI and that will then show the correct version of Google Chrome?

Go into this folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application

You will see two Chrome folders: 10.0.648 and 11.0.696.60.

Move the 10.0.648 folder into the Recycle Bin. (You can always put it back, if this causes problems, but since you state you are running 11.0.696.60, the old 10.x folder is superfluous.)

Restart your computer.

Run PSI.

All the Chrome problems should be gone.
