For some reason I do not understand I have severe problems with IE7 in Vista Home Premium. I think it's good to upgrade to 8. But I am unable to find a downloadlink? Can somebody help me?

Hi Anthony, thanks for your reply. I downloaded IE8 for Vista and tried to install. The installations seems to run normal. At the end a message tells that IE8 wasn't installed. No specific errors were mentioned. Only that I have to
reboot. After reboot there was an item on my deskto called: solve problems
with IE. Also, there no specific info about the cause of the problem. Any ideas?

Hi Anthony, because I was unable to write and send mails using IE8 I just installed Firefox 4.0.1 as non-standard browser. And I must say that I am
satisfied with it. Now there is no longer any urgency to repair IE7, but if any-
body has a solution it's OK, if not, no problem.

Hi LK ,

Well past my bedtime so will check in tomorrow . I know nothing about fixing IE as I almost never use it myself and I'm on XP so even less use to you and your Vista .

I'm pretty much up to speed on Firefox (my default) and Chrome (for fun) in case you need any tips ; Firefox 4.0.1 is much more like IE 9 and once your into it , you'll enjoy it immensely . I'm sure ddm or Maurice Joyce will be able to help with IE .

Catch you later .

Anthony

Hi Anthony, I too was hours past my normal bedtime last night because of the problems with IE7. I both tried Safari 5 and Firefox 4.0.1. I am happy with Firefox so I don't checkout other browsers. IE9 is not an option because my provider informed me that their Webmail doesn't work properly with IE9. Only IE8. Firefox and Safari are OK. And further I wait for others to give me suggestions to fix IE7.

Hi LK ,

Purely from a safety/security point of view IE 7 is a bit creaky when compared to 8 and much more so to 9 and the likes of Firefox 4 and Chrome 11 .

I broke 7 myself at one point and getting to 8 only happened when I decided to spring clean and reinstall my XP OS .

I found then and still find now that using a Mozilla add-on which allows me to run webpages using the embedded IE engine inside Firefox was best for me ; it will still have the same risk exposure as IE 7 until you update but you have the Firefox safety added - you can do the same in Chrome .

There are thousands of add-ons and themes , but too many bells and whistles can cause clashes and slowdowns , although much less with 4.0.1 .

This is the IE add-on which I use :-

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ie-...

and this is the best add-on ever :)) :-

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/col...

A final point about updating is that I prefer to do it through Ff itself ; so I set :-

Tools->Options->Advanced->Updates and select "ask what I want to do " .

I use Help->About Firefox to check the version and/or actually run the update .

Take care

Anthony

Hi Anthony, thank you, this is really helpful info. I noted the add-ons and I'll
look into the subject carefully before installing.

One last thing , LK . There has been a lot of talk , in the past again recently****, about Flash super-cookies or LSO's . If it is of concern to you , you might find NettiCat's Better Privacy of interest :-

http://netticat.ath.cx/BetterPrivacy/BetterPrivacy...

But like you said , do your research first and take your time .

Take care

Anthony
