My recent PSI scans say I need to install KB954430. I ran Microsoft Update several times but no updates were found.

My OS is Win 7 Pro 32 bit with SP1 and all other updates.

According to the Microsoft download site KB954430 is not applicable to my system.Should I just ignore the PSI reference to it?

Please advise.

Thanks and regards,Roy

Install MSXML 4.0 SP3, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx... ,
check for Windows Updates and then rescan with PSI.

If that doesn't work, post back with the troubleshoot report. You may have a copy of MSXML 4.0 incorporated in a third party product.

I have already tried Microsoft Update, several times, and no updates were found. Rescanning with PSI made no difference.

The frustrating thing is that according to the Microsoft download site for the update it does not apply to my system, unless I am missing something.

Please advide futher.

Thanks and regards,Roy

Hello Maurice,

Thanks for your post but I am sorry to say I am confused.

I searched in System32 and found the following files relating to msxml:

3.dll
3a.dll
3r.dll
4.dll
4r.dll
6.dll
6r.dll

I would greatly appreciate further advice as to what I should download and install.

Thanks and regards,Roy

Roy,
Both @ddmarshall & I are saying the same thing - my post just has a bit more detail.

U need to download & install MSXML 4 SP3 from here :

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx...

Once it is installed run a manual scan of Windows Update. There should be a hotfix for the files U have just installed.

Once all complete run a full PSI scan & all should be in order.

Hello Maurice and thanks.

I downloaded and installed msxml4 sp3 and then ran Microsoft Update but no updates were found. Would that be because the sp3 installer was a standalone version, not one from Microsoft Update?

I then ran the PSI and my score now is 100%. PSI shows I now have msxml4.dll version 4.30.2100.0 and msxml6.dll version 6.30.7601.17514.

Do I need to do anything else?

Please advise.

Thanks and regards,Roy

Edit:

PSI should read it as 4.30.2107.0.

U are OK if PSI is telling U that the version U have is secure. Windows Update may pick up the missing update (if a 32 Bit system requires it) in the future.

The bottom line is trust SEcunia PSI. If it states U are secure that should be good enough.

You are missing KB973685 but it isn't a security update.

I don't know why Windows Update hasn't offered it to you. It may arrive later. If you want to try installing it manually the download is at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx...

Thanks Maurice and ddmarshall.

I installed KB973685.The first attempt failed but when I set the .exe file to run as administrator for all users installation succeeded.(Why don't Microsoft tell you about needing to run as administrator? This applies to many other software makers as well).

I ran the PSI again and got a 100% score.
As a final precaution I ran Microsoft Update and no updates were found.
Very sincere thanks to you both.

The following is off subject, but I don't know the right place to raise this query. If I visit the Community site and try to logon I am told wrong user name and password, yet I know the details I enter are correct.I have to logon from the PSI,which is not convenient.Where should I ask about this?
Please advise.
Thanks again,Roy

Roy,
It looks like U have created two profiles. I would email Secunia Support at:

support@secunia.com

Explain the current issue & ask them to reset your log on to whatever suits U best.
