Somtimes we have problems in deploying certain Updates like Firefox5 (or AdobeReader 10.1 and the latest Java-Patch).
Secunia CSI let us create a Update-Package and we are getting the message that it was sucessfully deployed to our WSUS, but when the clients (Win7) check for available updates these updates don't appear and Secunia CSI marks them under the Deployment-Tab as "Not needed" which is wrong.
Why? Any solutions?
This is only happening with certain updates.

We're running Secunia CSI on a Windows2800R2(64bit)-Server.

Thanks for your support.

I use PSI; this morning it scanned and stated my Firefox was end of life. I followed it's link, updated using the PSI link and rebooted. Still PSI identified my Firefox as end of life (4.0). I went to Firefox website, manually updated to 5.0 and rebooted. PSI is again saying that the Firefox 4.0 in end of life and giving me a 99% secure PC even though it itself shows that Firefox 5.0 is installed. So, I tried to find and uninstall the 4.0 version and my PC does not reflect that 4.0 is any longer installed, only shows the new 5.0. Now I have come to the conclusion that the problem is in Secunia PSI software and not in my PC!

Hi,

@saltydawg

That is not a problem with the PSI. As you describe it, it is a problem of Mozilla not removing 4.x when 5.x is auto-installed (Using their own silent install flags).

The PSI takes care of patching security problems, not problems with a vendor's update procedures.

Hope this helps.

Only Secunia PSI is saying that the Firefox 4.0 is still present on my PC. When I go to my Windows 7 Install/uninstall software, the only version of Firefox installed on my PC is the 5.0 and I can not find any mention to the 4.0 version, so where is it hiding within my laptop? Is it hidden in the 5.0 software update itself? Normally when an older version of an install is present on my PC, I can find it and uninstall it manually, but according to my Laptop, it no longer exist. The only place I can find it being referred to in my PC, is only in the PSI. Hummm, not normal, doesn't make sense to this old Geek/Tech Reporter.

Hi,

Sometimes installers leave behind old files. The PSI scans for files, so even if the entry was removed from Add/Remove, if the file is still present, the PSI sees it.

You can post the debug report if you want help going from here.

Hope this helps.

The ultimate, underlying problem with updating Firefox from 4 to 5 was that even though 4 no longer appeared in my installed PC software, it was still contained within the new Firefox 5 software. I finally eliminated the Secunia End-of-life warnings by completely uninstalling Mozilla Firefox 5 and deleting the desktop icon and then reinstalled Firefox 5. Problem solved. What really had contributed to this issue, is that I also use Revo Uninstaller Pro which also had shown that Firefox 4 no longer existed in my system. Thank you Secunia PSI for keeping my computer software updated and ultimately my system safer from the bad guys! In my experience, 90% or more of the problems a PC can develop is due to unpatched software and is also the ultimate reason the bad guys gain access to any computer!

I too had problems when updating to Firefox v.5 but with PSI - see http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/995...

(The auto-download I referred to is the PSI feature.)

As a result of my post, I managed to get hold of Mogs, who's not been here for a while. Mogs was kind enough to tell me about the Firefox issues as reported in Softpedia - link below. Thank you Mogs - I'm sure that you won't mind me sharing it here, although only the experts here will be able to say if the article is relevant to CSI users.

It's interesting to see the reference in this article to Firefox's new v.5 auto-update feature. Whether or not this will clash with PSI/CSI auto-update is something that I'm sure Emil and others are looking into.
