I will quote my previous message since the issue wasn't resolved and the thread was locked:

(unknown source)
The symptoms persist across programs and vendors, like Java, Acrobat reader and AVG updates, but on same cable it was possible to insulate Win XP 64bit as source of problem (same room, 32 bit XP updates without glitches).

All of Java Windows .msi installer, Adobe Acrobat Reader update, Microsoft security patches automatic update and Microsoft Update from web and AVG antivirus get interrupted downloads, but not always - the behavior is unpredictable.

Network installer of Java worked, and download via web as a workaround made all patches install, so I believe I had isolated the problem.

Anyone had this problem and solution?

(Windows site says C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution directory of BITS downloader needs to be renamed, but it did not fix the problem -- some updates are eventually downloaded and installed, and some are not, it seems "stochastic", unpredictable.)

To add more data to this problem, I will add MS Windows error code 0x80246002 report from and install log. MS site says it is connected with corrupt C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution directory, but their solution did not work.

(unknown source)

Downloading Security Update for .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP for x64-based Systems (KB2478658) (update 4 of 5)... failed!
Downloading Security Update for Windows XP x64 Edition (KB2525694) (update 5 of 5)... done!
Initializing installation... done!
Installing Security Update for Windows XP x64 Edition (KB2525694) (update 5 of 5)...

Please any idea?

Regards,
Marv

For general Windows Update problems, the most you can do is run this Fixit in Agressive Mode http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

For .NET Framework update problems, try doing a repair from Add/Remove Programs. If that doesn't work, use the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool and reinstall the .NET Framework as shown in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/KB976982

You say you also have problems downloading updates from other sources which do not use Windows Update. You do not have this problem with other computers using the same network. Have you considered that there may be a problem with the network adapter on this computer?

Network adapter may not be issue, since I have 10 XP 64-bit machines that exhibit same behavior and head XP 32-bit machine that does not.

All 64-bit machines behave the same way, so if it is problem with network adapter, it is not malfunction, but bug in firmware or driver IMHO.

Marv

I don't have any XP Professional 64-bit systems; so I can't help you.

You could use Process Monitor on a 64-bit and 32-bit system. Then compare the output to see if you can detect any differences.

Hi,

I accidentally stumbled across solution over here:

http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/threa...

It does help remedy broken downloads.
