SECUNIA WINS 2011 ONLINE TRUST LEADERSHIP AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN CONSUMER PROTECTION Online Trust Alliance Recognizes Company’s Commitment to Enhancing Consumer Online Trust and Confidence
COPENHAGEN, Denmark – October 20, 2011- Secunia, the leading provider of Vulnerability Intelligence and Vulnerability Management tools, today announced that the Online Trust Alliance (OTA) has named Secunia as the 2011 Online Trust Leadership Award winner for Excellence in Consumer Protection. The award was presented to Secunia at the OTA’s 2011 Forum Awards ceremony, the culminating event to the organization’s sixth annual Online Trust Forum conference, held in Washington, D.C. earlier this week.
“Secunia’s efforts and resounding commitment to helping safeguard consumers and enhancing online trust and confidence is to be congratulated,” said Craig Spiezle, executive director and president of the OTA. “They have demonstrated the ideals and principals that are at the foundation of OTA’s mission to enhance online trust and confidence.”
Secunia was selected among 200 nominations for its focus and success in advancing consumer trust through safety innovations, consumer choice and control of online activities. The company’s flagship consumer offering, the highly acclaimed Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI), is accredited to the company’s selection for its superior ability to provide online security for private individuals. Secunia PSI is a free security tool in use by more than 4.3 million private users across the world. The free simple tool allows private users to stay secure by keeping their PCs up to date through automatic detection of vulnerable and outdated software programs and plug-ins which otherwise expose users’ PCs to attacks.
In addition to the Secunia PSI, Secunia's research and reports on the threat of third party programs and the failure of end-point security, as well as the company’s different awareness initiatives, were also contributors to the company's award selection. These have, among others, aided in further educating the market on the vulnerability threat and its impact on IT security; for both private individuals and businesses.
"Secunia is honored to be recognized by the OTA for our efforts in helping consumers secure their computer software,” said Niels Henrik Rasmussen, founder and CEO of Secunia. “Today more than 4.3 million consumers use our free security solution, and we're committed to expanding our user base and developing our technology to help the community against the threats of insecure software."
This is the second year Secunia has been recognized by the OTA for its products and efforts in safeguarding consumers against software vulnerabilities and threats. In 2010, the company was awarded the OTA Leadership award for its leadership and contribution to the trust ecosystem and also the OTA Excellence Award for Secunia PSI.
