This is the changelog for the Secunia PSI, changes between versions are listed and described here. Click headings to expand details.

Version 3.0.0.9016 (18th December 2013)

This is a minor maintenance release. The primary changes are:

New Features:

  • PSI 3 now supports Windows 8.1

General:

  • Misleading End User License Agreement (EULA) - The EULA currently being used says it is prohibited to install PSI in a commercial setting (which is contradictory to the use of PSI with the Secunia Corporate Software Inspector (CSI)). Fixed.
  • Pop-up while running the PSI with IE 8 and below - Clicking “No” on the pop-up will make the PSI work, but very slowly. Clicking “Yes” will make the PSI stop working. The pop-up is not displayed when IE 9 or higher is installed on the machine running the Secunia PSI.

Version 3.0.0.9 (11th November 2013)

  • Blue background on pop-up windows Fixed.
  • PSI fails to launch after linking it with CSI and downloading a new installable Fixed several problems with CSI integration, in particular this now works with silent installs.
  • Remove the csitoken change initiated from the PSI UI - With the new binary the UI no longer needs to notify the agent that it is CSI integrated. Fixed.

Various:

  • In addition to the above, a number of minor bug fixes and enhancements have been completed.

  • A number of minor bug fixes and performance enhancements have been completed.

Version 3.0.0.7009 (2nd May 2013)

This is a minor maintenance release. The primary changes are:

General Enhancements:

  • Auto-update stuck at "Verifying update". Fixed. The Secunia PSI now actively polls for the status of each on-going update for as long as it has not finished (instead of relying on the reporting from the agent).
  • Distinguish between having insecure programs and not having results in the tray icon. Fixed. The Secunia PSI will now actively and periodically poll for status on programs that are updating.
  • Scan result inconsistences. Fixed. The Secunia score is now calculated from the local status instead of using (possibly old) data from the server.
  • Sorting on version columns. Fixed.
  • Windows update check causing the Secunia PSI to get stuck on the scanning page. Fixed.
  • "Add program" link to make software suggestions would sometimes not react to clicks. Fixed.
  • For detected network communication errors, the user is now informed about the problems and is able to try again if the problem is temporary. This is done when changing settings, deleting history, making software suggestions, ignoring/unignoring updates, and changing which drives to scan.
  • Version reporting of the Secunia PSI version and error reporting for use in support cases. Fixed.
  • Splash screen is automatically dismissed after 30 seconds.
  • Secunia Community and Share menus removed.
  • Dutch language option added.

Secunia CSI Integration:

  • When a host changes name or LAN group, the information in the Secunia CSI is updated accordingly (if integrated with the Secunia PSI).

Minor Bug Fixes:

  • In addition to the major changes, a number of minor bug fixes and performance enhancements have been completed.

Version 3.0.0.6005 (25th February 2013)

This is a minor maintenance release. The primary changes are:

Proxy:

  • PSI 3 says it doesn't support Proxy. Proxies are not supported for standard PSI installations, so the message is correct for the normal use case. Only if PSI is installed with CSI integration does it have limited support for proxies. Error message updated to reflect this.
  • Proxy settings. When installing the PSI, and if a previous PSI has been connected with CSI, the user is prompted for proxy settings when installing the new PSI. Fixed.
  • During setup, my Proxy host name field defaults to an invalid value. Fixed.

Settings:

  • Update handling. During the installation of PSI, the user selects Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and update. Handling should notify the user when updates are available. After installation is finished and the first scan is run, the setting is automatically changed from Notify (not recommended) to Update (recommended). Fixed.

Icon Enhancement:

  • Tray icon is red but the UI shows 100% patched programs. In several cases the icon would stay red to indicate that the update agent had not retrieved scan data which could be confusing if the user interface was indicating that the system was up-to-date, since the red icon was also used to indicate that the system was vulnerable. A grey icon is now used to indicate that the update agent has not retrieved data yet. A pop-up message will now indicate if the update agent cannot contact the Secunia servers.

Minor bug fixes:

  • In addition to the major changes, a number of minor bug fixes as well as aesthetic and user-experience enhancements have been completed.

Graphical overview of current and historic patch-performance 10 weeks back.
  • Improved user friendliness for less-technical users
Most people naturally wish their PC to be as secure and updated as possible. With this in mind and the fact that some applications are are not always straight forward to update and patch, we have introduced a feature that basically will suppress applications that are potentially hard to patch from the overview pages. The idea is that: It is better to patch just one application than none at all.

The new feature called "Easy-to-patch applications" is enabled by default, but can easily be disabled by users who wish to see all detected applications regardless.
  • For each detected application there is now a "Toolbox" of features available:
    - Direct Download Link
    - Solution Wizard
    - Ability to request a re-scan of a single application
    - Access to Online References
    - Technical Details
    - Access to application installation folders directly from the PSI
    - Ignore Application (easy creation)
    - Shortcut to Windows Add/Remove Programs application
  • Scan progress and details page
    - Live updated progress bar when a scan is running
    - Live updated step-by-step information when a scan is running
    - View when the last scan occurred and when next scheduled scan will take place
    - Ability to abort a scan in progress
  • PSI application settings
    - Configurable if the PSI should start on boot
    - Configurable if the PSI should monitor your system
    - Manage your Ignore Rules
  • Secunia Profile
    - Create your own Secunia Profile to receive special benefits and be the first to participate in upcoming events and gimmicks! ;)
  • Detection of more applications
The PSI is currently able to detect and check more than 5,500 different applications (major branches).

To clarify, by 1 application we mean ALL versions of a particular application. As an example, our rule for Opera 9.x is capable of detecting version 9.00, 9.01, 9.02, ..[snip].., 9.23, 9.24, 9.50 and so on. This also includes localised and future/not-yet-released versions.
