4) Description of Vulnerability

Secunia Research has discovered a vulnerability in RSLinx, which can
be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.

The vulnerability is caused by a boundary error in the OPC Automation
ActiveX control ("RsiOPCAuto.OPCServer") when creating debug strings.
This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via an
overly long string passed e.g. in the "ProgID" parameter to the
"Connect()" method.

Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code.

5) Solution

Update to version 2.55 or apply patch (scheduled for July 2011).
