Scanning for missing security patches has never been easier.

By scanning for missing security patches, organisations can gain the intelligence needed to eliminate the threat posed by insecure and end-of-life software within the Corporate Environment.

The vulnerability issue cannot be denied. Every corporation has the knowledge that vulnerabilities in the IT infrastructure can be used to compromise security. This presents an extra challenge for the persons responsible for IT. How can you protect your IT infrastructure more effectively? How can you make sure that computers doesn't have software installed that lack the latest security patches? How can you do this without using vast amounts of time and effort to check dozens of vendor sites for software updates?

What are the benefits?
The NSI 2.0 enables the responsible IT security personnel to gain a complete overview of missing security patches within the corporate infrastructure. It pinpoints exact vulnerabilities affecting the infrastructure, and gives an in-depth, concise view and resolution of the vulnerability, indicating the location of the threat.

This solution provides organisations with improved responsiveness and tighter security measures, ensuring business continuity and minimising business damage. It does this through:

  • Identification of vulnerabilities and weaknesses in the software installed in the corporate infrastructure, allowing for immediate elimination of these issues.
  • Distribution of SMS and/or email alerts on changes in the corporate infrastructure, allowing for improved response times

I first learned about the Software Inspector solutions by using the online version. When I found out that Secunia had released a network version, the NSI, I was quite enthusiastic - I felt that it would be something valuable I could use for our department.

How does it work?
Based on the File Signature Technology developed by Secunia, it is capable of inspecting computers on the network to identify installed software, down to the exact version number. This creates a highly accurate mapping of the installed applications and their versions on computers.

Using the Secunia Advisory Database, these mappings are checked for missing patches, thus giving you a complete overview of vulnerable software within your infrastructure.

Vulnerability Scanning with the Secunia NSI 2.0
The Secunia NSI 2.0 is more than just a vulnerability scanner. Traditional scanners often attempt to run Proof-of-Concept scripts against potentially vulnerable systems. This approach entails them to perform "penetration" tests, which are not entirely safe for computers and often produce inaccurate results. In addition, organisations often find themselves limited by the vulnerability scanner database, or are not informed when critical updates are made available.

For administrators, key features include a remotely accessible centralized management dashboard; host and software overviews; scheduling; text messages on changes; daily/weekly E-mail change summaries; historic data storage and differential scan reporting; and one-click remote system inspection launches.

In contrast, the Secunia NSI 2.0 identifies the exact vulnerable application by looking at every single relevant executable and library. Rather than running a proof-of-concept script and assessing the response, such as those used in perimeter scans, the Secunia NSI bypasses the need to analyse such information. It tells you exactly what software can be used for such attempts, and what you can do to fix it.

In other words, the Secunia NSI 2.0 is non-intrusive and risk-free as it does not run any exploit code against scanned systems.

Secunia NSI 2.0 - the ultimate companion
The task of manually mapping an entire IT infrastructure to be notified of the latest vulnerabilities relevant to your system is a difficult task and is often based on outdated inventory lists. Software downloaded by end users, new system versions, and old applications installed on your network all pose a threat to the digital assets in the organisation.

The Secunia Network Software Inspector takes information accuracy to a completely new level, keeping you up-to-date regarding vulnerabilities in installed applications. You save both time and resources when handling vulnerabilities because the NSI maps out your IT infrastructure instantly. It keeps track of all security issues, telling you what you need to know, when you want to know it, and how to remediate it, all in one go.
