I have installed Secunia PSI 2.0 but as soon as it launches I get the below error message.

"Unable to retrieve PSI user ID from Secunia

Please verify that you are able to connect to https://psi.secunia.com/ and then restart the PSI.

Note: Proxy support for the PSI is currently unavailable, but is planned for a future release. If your system requires access to the internet through a proxy you will not be able the application at this time.
We apologize for the inconvenience."

I have read the post entitled "Unable to retrieve PSI user ID from Secunia" and carried out all the suggestions made there but I still get the same error message!

I have given permission for secunia psi to pass through the Windows Firewall and added both https://*.secunia.com/ and http://*.secunia.com/ to my Trusted Sites.

I cannot connect to https://psi.secunis.com. I have tried using Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3.6.13 and Chrome 9. Does this imply that I connect to the internet via a proxy but do not know it?

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate N.

I am out of ideas so can anyone help?

Thanks

Hi,

I noticed that you had a typo in the site you tried to access. Can you access
https://psi.secunia.com ?

If not, try walking through all the steps outlined here, and rebooting your computer: http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal...

Has this resolved the issue?

Hello

You are correct that I did have a typo but just to confirm, I cannot connect to https://psi.secunia.com.

I had also tried all the steps in the article you quote but to make sure I have been through them again and rebooted my computer.

This has not resolved the issue.

The only thing I did forget to mention is that I am running 64bit Windows 7. Could that be the problem?

Hi,

What is the setting for "Check for server certificate revocation" on your system?

If you are unable to connect to https://psi.secunia.com, then possibly your system is unable to verify our SSL certificate with Thawte.

"Check for server certificate revocation" on my system is NOT checked i.e. the selection box is empty.

I have tried without success to connect to https://psi.secunia.com using Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome browsers.

Hi,

Are you able to access this link?
http://crl.thawte.com/

That is the "Certificate Revocation List" from Thawte, who signed the Secunia certificates.
If you cannot access this site, I suggest you contact your ISP or Microsoft Support for advice - Both this site and https://psi.secunia.com are up from our tests systems, and without them the PSI won't work.

hope this helps.

Hello again Emil

I can connect to http://crl.thawte.com/

I can still connect to all my other https websites like internet banking.

https://*.secunia.com is in my Trusted Sites list in the 'security' section under Internet Options.

Secunia is allowed inbound through my Windows Firewall.

I have checked my AVG antivirus and I am not using a proxy.

I am truly puzzled by this and have tried everything I know to resolve this issue.

Am I the only Windows 7 user who cannot use Secunia PSI?

It has something to do with Microsoft Security Essentials (or possibly whatever other anti-virus/firewall/anti-spyware) application you use.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials and just disabled real-time protection... it got rid of this error for me.

Hi,

How many people experiencing this issue have Microsoft Security Essentials installed?

If you add "psi.exe" and "psia.exe" to "Excluded Processes" under Settings in MSSE, are you able to use the PSI properly?

I'm still having issues with retrieving my PSI user ID. I access the Secunia sites fine from any browser I use but I still get the message back that my profile has not been confirmed by Secunia. I'm not getting any error messages and PSI works fine otherwise.

I'm on the latest PSI version (3001), Windows XP pro SP3 with all the updates, & using Time Warner cable service.

As per my own thread (Recovery of my Secunia Profile), I've tried everything but still not working (still shows <unregistered user> in Dashboard).

Well guys I've given it a good go but time to admit defeat I think.

With regard to the last 3 posts I can confirm that I have tried several browsers and tried disabling firewall and antivirus software though no software, free or otherwise is worth using if it means leaving my computer vulnerable.

I do not use MSE, I use AVG but as I say I tried disabling it and still no joy.

Thank you to everyone who has tried to help and I will continue to monitor this thread just in case someone has a further idea as to what the problem is but I feel I have spent enough time on the problem.

I appreciate that because it appears everyone else can use Secunia PSI the problem must indeed lie within my computer settings somewhere but I have no idea where.

Thanks again.

Hello again guys.

You may be surprised to know that I have found what my problem was so I thought I would let you know just in case anyone else has been having the same problem which remains unsolved.

Quite by coincidence there was a different https web page I could not access in Google Chrome. I googled that problem and the resolution also solved my Secunia problem.

The cure was to replace the check marks in Internet Options properties on the ADVANCED tab where I scrolled down to SECURITY and enabled "Use SSL 3.0" and "Use TLS 1.0".

I can only guess that these two options were disabled by optimisation software that I sometimes run so I will be more careful in future.

Hello!

I had exactly the same problems and also the box-settings you've changed, but nothing works! Nevertheless, I found an idea from user "rizar" in an other forum. I don't know why (because I don't use the IE), but after the reset, everything works properly!

His recommendation:
(1) Enter Control Panel
(2) Select Internet Options
(3) Chose Advanced Tab
(4) Click Reset

May be, it will help you to!!!
